The Lighter Side / Re: Local food favourites
« on: Wednesday 20 October 04 17:52 BST (UK)  »
I lived in Lancs when I was young and a meal I enjoyed was black tripe and elder, served with sliced tomatoes, sprinkled liberally with vinegar and pepper and eaten with bread and butter. I even enjoyed it when I discovered what it was!! (my dad preferred honeycomb tripe). The tripe was bought from the local Tripe Shop! No this wasn't in the dark ages but the sixties! My grandma liked cow heel or pigs trotters (the latter are now appearing on menus in posh restaurants). Having moved away the food I like to buy when I go "home" is Bacon Ribs, boiled and served with cabbage and lovely creamy mash, yummy! :)

Sorry thats the only info I have, athough my grandma knew her Grandad, she never mentioned anything other that he was German and loved kids!
It sounds like the name is common in Germany, guess I've hit a brick wall.

Hi,
My g.g.grandfather was John Carl Albert Voigt b. in Germany <1841>.
Father John Gotlob Voigt, occupation prison warden.
By 1867 John Carl Albert was in Bristol and married Louisa Wathen. His father was given as deceased at this time and I don't know if he ever came to England.John Carl Albert and Louisa had the following children:
Ellen Bertha Louisa:Kate Emily Maria (my g.g'mother) b.29/2/1872:Louisa:
Edward: Frank:Edith:Florence . By 1883 the family were living in the Manchester area. John Carl Albert's occupation was a Journeyman Cabinet Maker  and he died in 1916. He was allowed to remain at home during WW1 due to age/infirmity. Any help /clues much appreciated. Thanks
