Norfolk / Re: Nelson family - Swaffham / connection with Horatio?

HI Simon

If you find a connection with Norfolk, contact a local researcher, they are more likely to have been using the local records for longer than national firms. The quote you give fills me with concerns as every family has lots of history and, if you go into it, 99% of families are massive. Good luck with your research.

I remember the Butcher's shop in Raynham. I also went to school with the daughter of the last Butcher there, her name was Anne.

If you are thinking of visiting Norfolk or Suffolk and want someone to take care of everything at this end, that is what I do. Drop me an email for full details.

VERY few records exist for Swaffham Prison. I have been researching the subject for a book and there is nothing in the Record Office in Norwich apart from a few plans. The newspapers could give more information if you have the date.

I have sent you a dm and look forward to your reply.

You know where he is in 1855, have you located him in 1851/61?

That will give you more information.

For finding people today, a letter to the local press is always a good idea.

There's a William Avis in Throckley, born in Bilney.

Avis is the usual Norfolk spelling.

Have you any more details about your William? Have you got him in any census etc?
