London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1861 Census Greenwich please

Thanks for your reply.

"Our" John H Lock was born in Tavistock and is listed on the 1881 as living at 14 Napier Street, Deptford. I just wondered if he was in the same area 10 years earlier.

We think he moved to London c1861/2 with my gggrandmother (from Salcombe)who was only 14 at the time whereas he would have been 25,married with 2 children!!

Thanks for your reply.

I am in the middle of changing computers and my scanner is "dead" so as soon it is up and working I will be back in touch.

Thank you so much for this - I had found this family on 1861 census online but listed as DARELL so I am really pleased to find that the name was correct after all.

What a good idea.  I have only imagined my family as very poor (Abbott is listed a beer retailer and was working as a stevedore when he died) not as if they could afford a surgeon to deliver a baby!!

There were 2 other children (11 and 13 in 1861), who are all listed as born in Bethnall Green but I have checked all the birth records without any luck....

Thanks for the suggestion

Thanks for such a quick reply - even though it still doesn't seem to help me find my DURELL family.

Sounds as though it could have been a rather grand address if the occupier was a surgeon...............

Hi

Its me (SueB) still looking for the family of ABBOTT DURELL in Bethnall Green.

I have obtained the birth certificate of one of Abbott's daughters - ELIZA born 4 July 1853 at 25 Green Street, Bethnall Green.

Please could someone check who was living at this address as it has been given to me previously for this family but never confirmed.   Abbott's wife Mary has the former name of BEFRAFT so maybe the Durell's were living with the in-laws.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Sylviaann

Yes you did look for me before but only at Durell and Durrell.

I was hoping that Davell might show up as that was the name on the 1861, however no such luck.

Thank you for looking again and being so thorough.  If I do get any joy with an address in Bethnall Green I may be in touch again.

Thanks

Thanks you for looking Pauline but this is not the family I am hunting for - still worth filing the records away as they might tie up one day.

I have just sent for one of the children's birth certificates and it will be interesting to see if it does confirm the family were in Bethnall Green at this time.

Maybe then I'll have to try and see if anyone has access to the Parish Records.

I think it is going to be another variation on the spelling as I've had DUVELL in 1881, DARELL in 1861, DURRELL and DAVELL on other records but thank-you for looking.

Sue
Thanks anyway

Hi Sylviaann

You have previously been kind enough to look on this census for my gggrandfather ABBOTT DURELL (without success) but as I have just found him listed on the 1861 for Deptford listed as DARELL I thought it might be worth another look,please....

There are 3 children listed on the 1861 aged 13,11 and 7 all listed as born in Bethnall Green so I'm sure the family must be in B G somewhere.....

Thanks
