Ah, thanks for clearing up the 1901 census, was a bit confused about that one so she was definately born in New York, have had a look but can't find anything will carry on the search.  Thank you also for the 1871 census for Alfred, I must admit I am just presuming that he is the father, so I will have to get hold of the marriage certificate to confirm it.

Thanks all

I meant Alfred, just found an Alfred Whitbread Tranter married to either to Sarah Powers or Louisa Augusta Thompson - St. Geo East March 1865, so with Kate Whitbread Tranter being born 1866 USA (although I can't find any births as of yet, they must have left for America pretty quickly.

I know, that confused me with the marriage being in Bangor???, I will try and clear the waters working backwards and trying to find her parents, I presume it must be Albert as the other girls would have been too young, wil carry on.

Thank you for all your replies.

Devon / Tranter 1871 census please

Hi, I have found a Kate W Tranter in the 1871 census born 1866, unfortunately I don't have access to this, could someone please spend a minute to have a look at it for me, I am interested as to where she was born, and I also can't find her in the 1881 census!  In 1871 she is based in Axminster I think.  Later census (after she married) states she was born in London or in New York, USA!!! Her middle name is Whitbread married name Pellowe.

Thanks
