Meath / **Resource** Dunboyne Cemetery -C of I
« on: Sunday 21 December 08 22:37 GMT (UK)  »
I've just put up several records of headstones in St Peter's C of I, Dunboyne - on CMC website

http://www.cmcrp.net/OtherCty/index.html
 . . . click on cemetery
 . . . go to 2nd page of records

I spent last Sunday pottering in the partly overgrown graveyard of St Peter's (and having a lovely time!), while OH rehearsed for a concert - then we had a tasty meal, followed by an evening of carols and Irish music in the church, followed by mincepies and mulled wine - a great way to start Christmas.

If you have Hamilton forebears, there are several tombs, plaques etc - I ran out of paper, and got frozen, and abandoned the task as dusk fell!

Other Countries / MONTSERRAT: Leeward Islands Police - **COMPLETED THANKS **
« on: Wednesday 03 December 08 21:04 GMT (UK)  »
Thomas Gray was a policeman (RIC) in Ireland until he retired in 1899 aged about 35. I've quite a lot of info on him before 1899 - it's afterwards that I draw a blank! (he would retire just before the 1901 census!!)

his RIC record has the comment ....
 "having been Cond in Cork
Appt Sergt Major Galway and Mayo
in the Leeward Islands Police"

I think Cond means "connected"

does anyone know anything about the Leeward Islands Police?
did Irish men go there ?to train police there?

any suggestions?

Scotland / BEGG Margaret and ARCHBOLD John .. 1870s **COMPLETED**
« on: Monday 10 November 08 18:28 GMT (UK)  »
BEGG Margaret and ARCHBOLD(all Variants) John .. 1870s

This is a rather long shot. My personal feeling is that they married in Ireland (probably Dublin) and their marriage was never registered.
I've looked at their parish, at online North Dublin marriages, at the BMD indexes in the GRO in Dublin - no sign!
I've looked at the BMD indexes for England/Wales in London, as she had kin in Cardiff - no sign!

I have the baptisms/births of their children - the eldest known was born in late 1878

I've never heard of a Scotland connection, but when all else fails ... if some kind Scots Rootschatter is trawling through Marriage Indexes for that time period, I'd be very grateful if they kept an eye out for my two!

Waterford / Portlaw CofI Graveyard ?search for William Gray 1892
« on: Sunday 19 October 08 22:02 BST (UK)  »

William Gray, a Presbyterian, died in 1892 in Portlaw. I know I need to take a trip there, and do some clambering over gravestones!

In the meantime, I'm hoping that some Waterford Rootschatter will know whether there are any GRAY graves in Portlaw (probably C of I, but possibly R C, as his wife was Catholic) - the family came there in 1875 and left about 1900.

in hope, eadaoin

Waterford / Portlaw - where would a presbyterian be buried?
« on: Tuesday 07 October 08 17:27 BST (UK)  »
William Gray, a Presbyterian, died in 1892 in Portlaw.
Is it likely that he'd be buried in the C of I graveyard in Portlaw?
Unfortunately, the newspaper notice says nothing about his funeral.

Meath / Everards aka Liveran/Liveren of Ratoath and Dunshaughlin
« on: Saturday 16 August 08 20:54 BST (UK)  »
one of my ancestors was Marcella Everard from the Ratoath / Dunshaughlin area - she married a man called Lynam and they lived near the Workhouse in Dunshaughlin. The Everard family were also known as Liveran - would anyone have any idea why??
