Family History Beginners Board / Family name
« on: Sunday 27 July 08 10:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi everbody
The name Kilgour has often puzzled me as to why I had it as a christian name,my father also had it as a christian name, and when I asked he said it was an old family name.
So when I started to research the family tree I did find that my G.G.Gmother's maiden name was Kilgour from Fife, some have a middle name like John james etc.but mine seemed strange to have a surname as a middle name.
Anyhow I will stop gabbling on and get to the point Where does the name originate from and would those who have the Kilgour is there any connection.

Thanks all
Peter

Northumberland / Missing uncle
« on: Monday 21 July 08 19:11 BST (UK)  »
Another mystery,an uncle by the name of Frederick William Loch King, moved, so I am led to believe, to the North East of England sometime after 1901.
I have tried to find out when/where he married or died to no avail,I have looked on the various sites but still drawn a blank.
He was born in Newcastle u Lyme Staffs in 1881.
 Thanks
Peter

« on: Thursday 10 July 08 10:38 BST (UK)  »
Could someone please decipher the following---------

Loch---Collessie 17-130
King----Collessie 17-130
Kilgour--Collessie 17-101
I have just had a look on the fife history society page, and found these three MI's,I have a 99.9% hunch that these three  are related bu marriage and could have a place on my family tree.
Thanks

Staffordshire / Pupil teachers or school teachers
« on: Tuesday 01 July 08 13:34 BST (UK)  »

In the late 1890's and early 20th century the census for those years show my aunts as being school teachers,is there any records that show which school they taught at.

Family History Beginners Board / thorpe

Another mystery of my wifes relatives.
My wifes grandmother was a Margaret Ellen Thorpe, her father was a David Thorpe b.1861 or thereabouts in Wrexham and mother Ellen White b.1871 in Ieland, the other children were Mary A,William, and Susan, also I believe a Thomas from the first marriage to a Thomas Thorpe. There is no record as I can see of the Death of Thomas Thorpe.
Thomas Thorpe was born in Uppingham Rutland about 1865,and that seems to be a common name, but unable track him from there.
David Thorpe born in Wrexham but the same again till 1901 census and the family had moved to Newcastle Staffs,as David married a Ellen White.
Anybody with any ideas
Peter
