London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Gainsford Gibling Walford 1841/51 look up
« on: Thursday 11 November 04 10:17 GMT (UK)  »
I had asked under the general England forum section if someone could decipher the name of Charles Henry Walford's father as the certificate was hard to read and the best fit seems to be Gainsford Gibling Walford (what a fab name!) who died in Shoreditch.

I would be very grateful if someone could look him up under the 1841/51 census. If he's the right Walford then hopefully he'll show up as a miller.

Apologies for showing my parish ignorance by flagging the request up under London & Middlesex.

As usual I am showing my parish ignorance by flagging the request up here but am unsure if it should be under the Middlesex forum area.

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 census look up
« on: Wednesday 10 November 04 09:53 GMT (UK)  »
I would be grateful if someone could look up Charles Henry Walford.

Charles Henry Walford stated on a 1871 census that he was born in Saffron Walden . He was living in London by 1858 but have been unable to trace him prior to his marriage on that date.  It states he was 35 and 6 months in 1871.  Below is his marriage certificate but I am unable to work out his father's first name but it does look like he was a Miller.

Hope you can help.

Regards

Helen

England / Helping decipher a name

Hi roots experts. I am having trouble reading a marriage certificate that I ordered and wondered if you could help.  Below I've attached the image and the paper version isnt much better!  Could anyone help identify what Charles henry's father's first name was and also his occupation.

It looks like he was a Miller but not sure.

Thanks

Helen

Hi

I would be very grateful if the following could be looked up for 1851 & 1861:-

Charles Henry Walford (Carman/Engine Driver) (35 in 1871)
Wife Elizabeth.  (33 in 1871)
Children - at that time one son  Henry (possibly 2 years of age).

I have asked a similar request under Middlesex but Charles & Elizabeth did marry in Shoreditch (1858)  and the first child Henry is shown on the 1871 census as born in Shoreditch so maybe this forum area is the correct place to ask.

Here are some details of the 1871 census

It states that Charles was born in Saffron Walden and I am particularly interested to see if the family had moved to London by 1851 & whether the census consistently shows Saffron Walden or a particular village in that area as I've not been able to track Charles to Saffron Walden. He had died before the 1881 census.

Completed Census Requests / Cantle look up 1861
« on: Thursday 14 October 04 07:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'd be grateful if someone with access to the 1861 census could look up the Cantle family living in Maesteg (Llangynwyd Higher). Father Joseph Cantle, mother Hannah, children - William, Amelia and Letitia.  It may be spelt incorrectly as Cantell or Cantel.

Thanks

Gloucestershire / Cantle family - Bitton
« on: Wednesday 13 October 04 09:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm currently tracing the Cantle family and have reached Hannah and Joseph Cantle who were living in Maesteg, South Wales from the 1830's. Census info shows that they were both born in Bitton near Keynsham but I have reached a dead end here.  Does anyone have any information on the Cantle family in the Gloucestershire area and in particular anything on Joseph and Hannah.
