The Common Room / Re: Electric theatre - orchestra
« on: Tuesday 06 September 11 20:17 BST (UK)  »
An electric theatre is usually a cinema - since the films were silent they employed small orchestras or more cheaply a lone pianist to add a little extra to the film.

Dear MarthaAnnie
It's the National Burial Index - I don't have a copy but lots of libraries do - and so do some Rootschatters.  However, it's not yet complete, so don't despair if you don't get an immediate result - it may take a while but sooner or later, he'll turn up.

Dear MarthaAnnie
The thing is - as I understand it he was living in Ashbourne and if his wife was buried there he would have almost certainly bought a plot for them both.  Have you checked the NBI?  I know it's not complete but I've found it quite useful on a number of occasions - it will certainly tell you the town he was buried in.

Dear MarthaAnnie
I couldn't find the post I answered before - but now have checked out St John's Horninglow, St Modwens (the parish church) and Holy Trinity and no burial there either.  The library don't keep burial records for Stapenhill Cemetery (I was hoping to double check), so I can only suppose they popped him in the guard's van of a train heading towards Ashbourne, and buried him there.  No obit that I could find in the Burton Mail - just a notice of his death.

Dear David, Mike, Sylvia and OneTiger
Thank you so much for restoring my Dad's photo - the original is very small and faded, and it is lovely to have your beautiful work to look at.  I showed one of them to him when I visited the other day and he smiled - which was lovely - he is 87 now and very poorly.
Again, thank you so much.

Dear Experts
Is there any possibility of improving this small photo of my Dad - it is very faded.  I should be very grateful.
Thanks

Dear Experts
Is there any possibility that you could tidy up this photo please?  It's rather faded and has a crease.  I'd be very grateful.
Regards
