Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Unusual New DNA Match on MH
« on: Wednesday 17 November 21 00:30 GMT (UK)  »
I also recently had a strange MH match. I share 43 cM over six segments and have 623 shared matches. I can't find any with triangulated segments, however, I do know where about 5 shared matches fit into my tree and they are on different lines.

Wow impressive stories

Gail im surprised by high dna thru lines i suppose it shows more people are testing .

Are your relatives in USA ?

Surprisingly most are from the UK and I was born there but live in Australia. There are some in the USA. I haven't checked but I would guess it would be about 75% UK 25% USA.

I still think 28 thru lines thru 8 Different children of same man must be a record

I have 40 Thrulines through 7 different children from my 4x great grandfather

Yes I think I will try to contact them because it is not only a big issue for me, but I am sure it will be a big issue for others and they should be aware of this.

Yes Gadget my mother has tested which is why I have a lot of matches already assigned to maternal, but some of them are both and some closer to my paternal side. My Mum and Dad were second cousins.

I've also noticed that one of my matches not assigned to maternal (Mum doesn't match him), but is equally related to both, if I assign him to both the only option for relationship is "distant relation", but if I assign to either paternal or maternal only, I can then select fourth cousin. Weird

I had this yesterday - it didn't tell me or help me with anything as I had already colour coded and added notes to those I knew!

I'm not sure why they did it  ::)

Add - Gail - you can select 'both lines'  in the first selection

Yes you can, but for those matches where Ancestry automatically made those matches on my mothers side assigned to to Maternal, you can't change them. The only ones I can assign to either is where Ancestry hadn't assigned to maternal.

This doesn't work well at all when your parents are distantly related. My mother has tested but my father died years ago. People that match through both of my lines all show as maternal matches and I can't change those that should be paternal. Also, I can't see a feedback link to point this out to Ancestry.
