Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Rationalising a 239 cM match
« on: Tuesday 28 February 23 04:56 GMT (UK)  »
On Ancestry my 1C1Rs are 733, 519, 472, 252 and I have a half 1C1R at 188cM.

The same thing happened to me and it took me about twelve months to fix it.

What I had done was clicked on "unsubscribe from this type of email" in one of the email messages that I received from MyHeritage.

To fix it, I went to an old email address from them and clicked on "Email Preferences" which is right next to "unsubscribe from this type of email". From there you should be able to accept which types of emails you receive.

I didn't get any help from MyHeritage as I am not a subscriber. I could find no help in their knowledge base and could not find anything under my Account settings or site settings.

I think they have removed the icon but there are now three buttons below the name where you can connect to tree, message or edit relationship.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: how do cousin marriages effect dna results ?
« on: Monday 31 October 22 00:38 GMT (UK)  »
My parents were second cousins. I have attached part of a list of my matches that shows if they are high or low. My more distant relatives mostly appear to be low and I came across a 2C1R yesterday who matches me just 9cM.

Go to your list of DNA matches and the top you can now select by parent, all matches or by location

I can see the new feature. It is a big improvement for me as my parents are second cousins. It now shows a lot of cousins on their correct side. Previously I had to mark a cousin on the wrong side to get the correct relationship. I now have an even quantity of maternal and paternal cousins whereas before it was about 95% maternal cousins.

Cheshire / Re: David Armitage born 1876 West Kirby

The David Armitage in question is my great great uncle and he definitely died in 1918. He and the other David Armitage were first cousins. Thanks Middlesbrough for the newspaper articles I had not seen those. I had always assumed David was out fishing in 1911 since I couldn't find him, but I Knew Martha was staying with her parents.

Hi Leo,

Sorry I have not done any more work on this line. I do have an email address for Jon which I will send in a private message.
