To Shellback
Thanks for the information on the Delaneys anything you can remember about the Delaney families would be helpful, my father always said that Thomas Kevin Delaney of Parnell St was his cousin, we are trying to find a connection between Thomas kevin and my grandmother Mary Jane Coates (father's mother) who was brought up by a family of Wades in Wexford) - Thomas Kevin's mother Mary Alice Delaney is formerly a  Wade married to a Thomas Delaney (Thomas Kevin's father).

Hi Selina
Someone very kindly sent me an extract from the Ipswich Journal but not the jackson's journal the Ipswich was only an extract and not the full article. If your could pm me the llink that would be great. Thanks. At this stage I'm trying to find some reference to Job's place of birth e.g. a town in cambridgeshire.where he came from, I was hoping to find this on the court record but haven't managed to locate it yet. I have seen the reference to Job Housden Wilson I guess they could be related, cousins or something like that.

I've sent off an email to my Wilson contact here in Oz - wait and see what he comes back with.  The baptism record - did it by any chance mention what Timothy's wife's name was or Simeon's.

Hello Bedfordshire Boy
Thanks for replying - All the info I have on Job including the fact that he came from Cambridgeshire has been passed on to me from previous research done by other people connected with the Wilson's in Australia. I assumed the info to be from the Ships records. Job died in Australia in 1867 we estimate he would have been about 80 yrs old calculating that he was born circa 1788/89. I don't have the actual records myself but I could enquire how/where the "Cambridgeshire" connection came from. I started to think the same way you have with the names of other family members and you are quite right, we have a Simeon and a Timothy . Job's children in birth order were two Edward's b1/1816 and 12/1816 first one died an infant, Simeon, Elizabeth, Job, Susannah, Timothy, Phoebe, John, Susan, Thomas, Jane, Jessie, and Matilda.

About the Assizes records - I have been searching for those as well in the hope that his actual birthplace (town) might be on the record but I have had no luck finding the actual Assizes record - having poured through a couple of books on-line. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place.

I might get back to the person who compiled the facts about Job and ask about the Cambridgeshire thing and the actual Assizes records but I feel sure that all the info he has is from the Ship's records here in Oz.

When you say Duxford do you mean Duxford St John?

Job Wilson born Cambridgeshire around 1788/89 .

The Wilson family have researched Job's life in Australia from the time of his arrival in 1812 on the Guildford to Port Jackson (Sydney). until his death on 14/8/1867 in North Richmond, NSW, and would like to find out something about where he came from in Cambridgeshire. All we know is that he stood trial on 13th march 1811 at the Essex Lent Assizes (Chelmsford)  for burglary of a straight coat valued at 5 shillings from the shop of Ralph Bullock, St Giles Parish, Colchester, Essex, sentenced to death (which was changed to transportation for life to Australia). Job was a Sawyer by trade. His religion was C of E.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. Regards

Checked out Job Houseden Wilson but he's not my Job as he lived and died in Duxford St John he also had a son Job but his birth date is around 1829 too late for mine too. Funnily enough though one of his relatives has ended up in Australia.
Regards and thanks.

Just to say thanks for the info you supplied on Essex I had a look at the indictment books but couldn't find Job Wilson - the records are unbelievable though just amazing!! I really was hoping to find Job Wilson's place of birth but no luck so far. He could be from any parish in Cambridgeshire any ideas on how to narrow it down. I don't know if he had siblings or what his parents names were.

Also thanks to Suffolk@sue for the article from the Ipswich Journal - can this be viewed online?

Essex / Essex Lent Assizes

Where could I get information and details of a conviction at the Essex Lent Assizes for 13th March 1811. I'm trying to trace a Job Wilson who was transported to Sydney, Australia  on the ship "Guildford" on 3rd September, 1811. I'm hoping to find where he came from- all I know is Cambridgeshire at this stage. He was born around 1788/89.

Thanks for your info - I just realised that there is also a Parish of St Nicholas as well as a Church of St Nicholas. I think the Parish of St Nicholas must be what I am after as my relative is RC not Church of Ireland. I find it confusing sometimes with Parish, Barony, etc. So if it is Parish of St Nicholas what Catholic Church/s would that be.? I have seen a photo on some website of a street/lane in Crosses Green but not a lot of info on the Crosses Green of the past. My relative we think also had Salmon fishing rights so he must have lived close to the river.
