Found this marriage for one set of my gt gt gt grandparents on Familysearch and wondered if anyone is able to access to the original record book.

The marriage was on 01 Aug 1802 at Saint Michael, Tatenhill, Staffordshire. I'm wondering what other information is in the record - father's names, ages, or witnesses etc.

Thank you in advance,

My OH has a photo of his gr. grandparents. There is a crease right through the middle of it and I'm hoping someone can fix it.

I've been having no end of trouble with my scanner and can't seem to get a resolution higher than 200 ppi. If this is not good enough let me know and I'll give it another go.

Thank you in advance.

The Lighter Side / Combining last names to create a new legal married name
« on: Tuesday 13 December 16 16:32 GMT (UK)  »
Well, this could put a new wrinkle into genealogy.

British Columbia couple take their last names - Gick and Wagner - to make a new name - Wickner - and follow through with the proper paperwork to make the new name a legal one  :o

I've never heard of it, but apparently it has happened before. Good thing it wasn't a popular idea a couple of hundred years ago  ;D

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / What is the age of this woman?

I'm trying to decide the correct age for Ann Nixon on the 1871 Census (RG10/2702/30/7)

It is the 3rd number down in the right hand column. It has been transcribed as 60 but to me looks more like 40 or 44. If it's any help the number on the bottom right is 10 and matches the number of females in that column.

Leicestershire / Mary Nixon - where did she come from and where did she go?
« on: Saturday 15 October 16 18:01 BST (UK)  »
In 1861 my gt grandmother (Mary A. Blower) is a servant in the Charles Neville household in Weston on Trent, Derbyshire. I'm wondering if she has a family connection to the Housekeeper - Mary Nixon (b. 1829) who is shown as born in an unknown location in Leicestershire.

But I can't seem to find Mary Nixon anywhere other than this 1861 census.

1861 UK Census: RG09 / 2489 / 110 / 3 (Weston on Trent, Derbyshire)
Mary Nixon - Housekeeper - unmarried - 32 - Farmer's Housekeeper - Leicestershire, N.K.

Can anyone help?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Can anyone date this motorbike?
« on: Sunday 25 September 16 01:01 BST (UK)  »
My mother had a photo of a young couple on a motorbike. I've been trying to figure out who they are but I'm not sure if the photo was taken in England or Canada.

Can anyone date the photo or determine where the photo was taken by the registration number?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Common Room / Was my Elizabeth an Archer, a Bosworth or both
« on: Wednesday 31 August 16 22:36 BST (UK)  »
On a recent trip to Manitoba I found the gravestone for my distant cousins William and Elizabeth Shepherd. The stone reads:

William Shepherd late of Winshill, Derbyshire, Died May 24, 1892, Aged 64 years.
Elizabeth Archer, wife of the above, Died May 17, 1905, Aged 72.

William and Elizabeth, along with their married and unmarried children emigrated to Canada (Rathwell, Manitoba) around 1885.

The 1861, 1871 and 1881 England Census show Elizabeth as born around 1833 in Upton, Leicestershire and William as born around 1828 in Bentley, Warwickshire.

I've always thought this was their marriage in 1852 and can't find a Shepherd/Archer marriage.
Nov. 1, 1852 - Parish Church - Ansley - Warwickshire
William Shepherd, 25, Bachelor, Labourer, Ansley, father - William, Labourer.
Elizabeth Bosworth, 20, Spinster, Servant, Ansley, no father listed.
Witnesses, George Shepherd and Hanah Rowley.

The surname Bosworth is also shown for Elizabeth in the marriage banns

Hoping someone can help sort out my Elizabeth. The gravestone was the first time I've associated the Archer name with Elizabeth Shepherd. I've always thought her maiden surname was Bosworth but now wonder if it was Archer. Either way no matter which name is used I can't seem to figure out where she was in the 1851 or 1841 England Census.

All ideas and help appreciated.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Who is Ana?
« on: Friday 12 February 16 17:33 GMT (UK)  »
Help please with this witness signature in an 1764 marriage register.

The bride and groom names were Hinckes and Elton so it doesn't seem like either of those names.

I've been wondering if it is - Ana Thelo.

All suggestions welcome - I see someone else was also wondering who the witness was  ;D
