Ah - I should have looked at Family search - the baptisms are  transcriptions of church records - so much more reliable than user trees you find online. Herthe seems to be the mother's name rather than Henrietta - presumably known as Etta. The informant on Oscar's death appears to have his mother's name incorrect.

It would seem that E W Robinson has everyone in the family correct - other than the fact that the son known as William as on the death certificate (& in the funeral notice)  was baptised Oscar Frederick William.

The death certificate seems to have confirmed what you already knew - nice to have them match up  :)  :)

I see that much of the information has been posted on previous threads. A summary of the Qld data
is

Qld BDM Records
Marriage 1928 C103 Henry Victor Weber married Isabella Martha Landells
Death 1954 C1395 Isabel Martha Weber Parents William James Landelle Hertha Netzler
Death 1984 57814 Oscar Landells Parents William Landells Phoebe Agnes Netzler

The funeral notice provides the daughters' married names.
Courier Mail 20 Dec 1954 p 14
Landells, Mr. William James, Glenrosa Road, Red Hill.— Relatives and Friends of Pastor and Mrs. Don Whittaker, Mr. W. Landells, Mr. H. V. Weber, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Miller are respectfully informed of the death of their beloved Father, Father-in-law, and Grandfather. The Funeral is appointed to leave the Parlour, 400 Wickham Street, To-day (Monday), for Mt. Thompson Crematorium, after Service commencing 11.45 a.m. METROPOLITAN FUNERALS

Oscar certainly seems to be the Mr W Landells from the funeral notice - perhaps he was known as William.

Isabella's death index gives her mother as Hertha Netzler,- which could be a transcription error but closer to Henrietta/Etta than Phoebe Agnes.

My best guess would be Oscar was known as William, child of Phoebe
Isabella daughter of Henrietta/Etta - although her marriage certificate might confirm or not.
Both children must have been quite young when their parents died, so they may be using information supplied by their father or step mother.
Faith daughter of Marguerite.

It is an interesting puzzle but unless the marriage records from Samoa exist and can be found - the parent of Oscar & Isabella could be either of the first 2 wives.

Australia / Re: Birth Registration
« on: Saturday 20 January 18 06:55 GMT (UK)  »
My friends mum was born in 24 and my friend in 63, so it is an unusual tree. But nothing we do is without mums consent.

Can I also say thx to judb for all the info from her extract. It has helped with her mums and she will go back to BMD and see what can be found.

Going back to the registry is a great idea - it appears the birth was registered so there should be a record of same - could be spelling errors/name changes/whatever that has made the record not easy to find with a simple search by registry staff. I have found many index errors in Vic, NSW and Qld records - and this is probably the issue with this certificate. good luck with your search

Australia / Re: Victoria BDM: Double birth/marriage registrations - which to order?
« on: Tuesday 16 January 18 11:26 GMT (UK)  »

...So, it appears if I were to order from the Vic BDM, I would order the 35459 record. However, Westward's suggestion of ordering a NSW transcript sounds eminently more sensible.

If you have anyway of accessing the library copies of the records, that would be the cheapest option (or accessing the CD mentioned by Cando). I don't know if your state library would do a lookup on the NSW films or the CD for you - could be worth an email.

The advantage of having the records in the Vic BDM  index (over NSW) is you get both parent full names on the index. You are fortunate to have the mother's maiden name as on many church baptism records this is not given. I doubt there will be much extra information on these  records, perhaps the occupation of the father/husband - I can think of little else that is not on the Vic Index.

If you want to get a copy of any of the church records, the cheapest option would be a NSW transcript

Check each of the transcription agents - some charge less for transcribing church records

As church records, there may be little more information than is shown in the index. For the birth record - did the family have more children post Jun 1853? If so that civil certificate would give more value for money.

Also - Victoria did not separate from NSW until 1851. Those early records should be in the NSW bdm records and are available in many NSW libraries at no charge. Also available at most state libraries and probably some online sources (pay sites or perhaps familysearch? - I can't find any at the minute)

Thank you for the replies. I'm still slightly mystified as to why they died on the same day (well, were buried on the same day).

Where did you find the information about the pew in St Aubyn's DOB7?

James' father Alexander started the Linen Drapers & James carried on the business.

Spelling varies - Macarthur, Mc Arthur, MacArthur

The Macarthurs (John and his nephew Hannibal) are well known as early Australian settlers.  Following the family back to England, James McArthur and his wife Catherine Hawkins had 14 children - 1783 to 1798. My query relates to some deaths.

In 1824, James aged 72, and his wife aged 66 were both buried on 13 February 1824. One of their daughters Mary, aged 39 was buried 30 October of the same year. Was there an epidemic or some other reason that may have caused them to die at the same address in the same year?

thanks for any ideas
