Wow !

Thank you so much, the photos are beautiful and it's great to see the broach up close - i'm afraid that has been lost long ago.

It is so kind of you to give up your time.  I really appreciate it.

Many thanks indeed. Jackie :)

Hello

I have had this photo for a while when someone pointed out that she was wearing an Air Forces badge.  I asked the experts in the Armed Forces section who told me that it was a sweetheart badge.  They suggested I posted the photo on here for dating.

It is such a beautiful photo I would dearly love a colour version if anyone would be so kind and has the time.

many thanks
Jackie

thanks again for your help

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Beyond Repair?
« on: Thursday 11 March 10 23:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I have a photo which is not only a very poor copy but was also scanned in at quite a low resolution.  I don't have access to the original photo so unfortunately I can't get a better copy.

Do you think it is beyond repair?   ???

Armed Forces / A forces lady?

Hello

I wonder if anyone could possibly shed some light on the attached photo.  Someone pointed out recently that she has a 'air force' type pin on her outfit and so I wondered if any experts out there could help??

Many thanks  :)

Hello again.

If the weather is Ok at the weekend I will have a trip over to the graveyard and photograph some of the remaining headstones to see how far back they date if you are interested.

I'm not exactly sure of the date of the pic but I know that my last known relative buried in the graveyard was in 1919 which I find a little strange as I think the new St Johns was built in 1913.  Unfortunately there is no headstone for my relative but the extremely helpful people at the Whitehaven cemetry had a record for the original St Johns burials and knew exactly where to find it.

It's strange I've lived here all my life and until this year I didn't even know it existed.  I guess that fact (as Geoff spotted) that the lane next to it was called Church Lane should have give me a clue!

Hello All

Well after quite a search I have managed to track down a photo of the original St Johns Church in Hensingham.  I have talked to quite a few older local people who knew about the original church.  Apparently the reason why the new St Johns church was built was due to the badly deteriorated state of the original church.  The current St Johns church was built on ground gifted by the Earl of Lonsdale.

I visited the old St Johns site a couple of weeks ago and there are still many headstones buried under brambles.  Hopefully my own relatives are not the only ones who are gone, but not forgotten.

Hope you like the photo
Jackie   :)
