Janette,
That Joseph does fit into my tree. And he did make a trip to Australia to I presume visit his brothers in 1858 and then leaving in 1860.

But I have him dying in Elland, Yorkshire in 1877, and being married to an Ellen Garsed

Thanks guys,
Im just going over the information and cross referencing it with the stuff I have.

If no connection presents it self, I will more than likely request the death certs for both Edward and Joshua.

Althea,
That's the problem, I don't know who the parents are, so I cannot link Joshua or Edward.
I do know they are related as all Garsed's are/were.

That's why I was trying to go an alternative route with Percy Smith being a cousin to my garseds..

A great thanks to both of you John and althea.

I knew there were 2 other garsed's there and im 100% sure there is a connection, but finding it is the hard part.

Edward fought in the maori wars with the Taranaki Bush rangers

And one of the J's, joshua or Joseph was a ranger with the Govt lands dept

Maybe Joshua and Joseph are the same person????

The search goes on....

I do believe I have posted this in the wrong spot, Any chance a Mod can put it in the proper New Zealand Forum?

Thank you in advance.

Althea,
I have some additional information that might be a help or a hindrance..... his name might also be JOSHUA. According to the newspaper he died 1901 in the Avondale area, aged around 76 (I also have his age at death as 66)

Still no luck on his parents names....

Gday from across the pond,
I am currently chasing a lead to find out some information on an ancestor of mine, Joseph or John Garsed. I have a few newspaper death notices from NZ that states he was the cousin of the above Percy Smith.

Now I cannot find any details of Percy's brothers or sister, which makes it hard to find out where he is connected to my garsed line.

Or is he connected through Percy's wife Mary Anne Crompton?

Please can somebody help me.

Thank you in advance.
