here is the townland on the c1837 OSI map : Knocknamucklagh

by my reading of the map it's in Kilmeen civil parish, so maybe a mistake on the 1851 townland index ?

p.s. the townland is located abt 5km west of the town of Boherboy

One of the Sub-Districts of Kanturk is named Boherboy, mostly covers sections of Kilmeen and Drumtarriff civil parishes, no mention that I see in the listing I have of Knocktemple civil parish being included, but the boundary could have altered slightly over the years.

There are a few other 'Knock' townlands in the district, but no good other close match to Knocknamogologh though. Knockmanagh, Knocknacurring (east & west), Knocknacurragh, Knocknadrahan, Knocknavoreen, Knockeendallane, Knocknamannagh (commons, east & west), and a few other shorted townland names that dont look right..

I think the 2 census entries are actually in Belfast, Co. Antrim, rather than Antrim town.

thanks - didn't recognize the street names and got it wrong!
I should have looked at the building return..

this seems to be the family in 1911 - still in Belfast Antrim town.

  Browning household

Married 21 years, so c1890

possible birth for Mary from the BMD Index :

  Name : Mary Charlotte Browning
  Event Type : Birth
  Quarter and Year : Apr-Jun 1893
  Registration District : Fermoy
  Volume : 4 / Page : 571

Fermoy is in Co. Cork, and quite some distance from Mullingar and Co. Antrim, but had a major barracks. Several of the children were born in England, so it's possible the marriage was there...

see : Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon
Details included on a Birth Cert

could this be the family on the 1901 census ?

  Browning household, Belfast

Mother Margaret born Mullingar, but daughter Mary born Fermoy, Co. Cork...

I'd start with any census returns you can find and then maybe a birth cert for Mary, and see if a marriage can be located for Margaret & Edward, as this would give you the names and occupations of their fathers. Horan is quite a common name, so there could be more than one Margaret born in Mullingar around the late 1860s early 1870s.

there doesn't seem to be a graveyard at the RC (parish) church in the town either - so there's probably one somewhere nearby. Possibly that one at Ballymackenny mentioned in the other thread..

yes - records are kept by parish, so that's what you need to look for on the NLI Index, RootsIreland etc, in this case Termonfeckin. That townland of Milltown and chapel at Sandpit, are in Termonfeckin civil parish, so as well as the townlands in the civil parish of Termonfeckin, the RC parish contained the townlands in the civil parish of Beaulieu and parts of the other two civil parishes mentioned.

Priests at Chapels of ease sometimes had separate notebooks for records or even separate registers, but any details should have been transferred to the actual parish register. There might be notes still in local custody, but probably a very long shot... and in any case I think doubtful they would go back any further than the parish records.

I dont see a graveyard at that church on historic or recent maps.
