World War One / Desertion Records, Help with a great great uncle.
« on: Thursday 23 July 09 13:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi guys.

Ive been trying to find out more about my moms grandad and his brothers time in the army.

I came across my GGuncle Richard's record. ( i think its ok to talk about him as he had no children)

It shows that he was first in the south staffs regiment, and then in the Notts & Derby Regiment.

It notes on the medal card that he Deserted the south staffs regiment.

Im guessing that he had deserted before they had actually left the country?

I know alot of deserters got killed. But am i right in saying this was if they went abroad on service.

So if he deserted whilst still here. Would he have been sent to prison and then put into another regiment?

Also how do i find any derserters records.

I will upload his Medal card for people to take a closer look at, as i dont know what any of it means.

Thanks

Hey guys,

my Aunty and some of the family photos that are about a3 in size. They are crumbling alittle bit.

Basically id like to be able to scan them and then work on them myself on the computer. as i am quite good at restoration.

The only problem is i dont know where i should go to get these photos scanned? or if its possible at all... as i only have a standard a4 scanner.

anyone have any ideas.

( ps i have tried to take photos of them, its not quite the same though is it )

World War One / Help with Great Grandads regiment
« on: Monday 27 April 09 13:21 BST (UK)  »
Hey guys. This here is my great grandad in his uniform.

Im trying to find out which regiment he served in.

He was from Wolverhampton b.1885 . And my mom was told he served in India, but we are not sure exactly.

WE think we may have found his medal card, but cant be sure. The reason we believe this to be his medal card is that a surname is crossed out. That being Nash. Nash was the surname of his father. But was given the name of his mother ( hodgkiss ) due to being illigitimate.

( might just be a huge coinsidence though )

Ive attached the medal card i think might be his.

thanks for any help.

Hey guys,

ive fond an article in the times newspaper in 1933, which is about my GGGgrandmother.

She was from Tonypandy, Penygraig. And i wondered if anyone knew what local paper this would have been reported in? I dont know what papers run in Wales.

Thanks
