Fermanagh / STEWART name, Enniskillen, Fermanagh...
« on: Friday 22 October 04 11:28 BST (UK)  »
...totally grasping at straws on this one.

Here goes, if anyone researching the STEWART surname in Enniskillen area ever comes across reference to a George Stewart, born probably late1870's/80's,, and know from any subsequent history on them that they moved to Scotland, please do post what you have.

My own searches would suggest there were probably families in Enniskillen around that time with the surname Stewart, but as I have so little info it is difficult to pursue these further.

My own dad used to always say that his maternal grandad, George, came from Enniskillen, but that he had no other details (ie dates, place name etc). George probably moved to Scotland late 1800's to work in the mines, and possibly lived in Cadzow Bridge area of Hamilton. He had a number of children born there, one of them being Agnes, my dad's mum.

So, longshot I know, but worth posting anyway as someone, somewhere may one day have the missing link.

Thanks in advance, ever in hope.

Suffolk / SHEVLIN name in Felixstowe.....
« on: Friday 22 October 04 11:03 BST (UK)  »
...bit of a long shot but decided to post on off chance that a 'Shevlin' from the area may at some point be doing a family tree.

I  have a line in my tree with links to a Katie Youngson born c1903,  in Lanarkshire, who was married to a Felix Shevlin and lived at some point in Northumbria (possibly Backworth/Shiremoor area). Anyways, I believe their son/s moved to the Felixstowe area at some point ( or, I suppose, maybe the whole family moved there).

So, if any of this means anything to someone out there, do get in touch.

Forgot to say, maybe if any  Rootschat users local to Felixstowe know someone in the area with the 'Shevlin' surname, they may want to mention this post.

Lanarkshire / Re: Look-Up or any other info.....YOUNGSON...
« on: Friday 22 October 04 10:01 BST (UK)  »
Hello,  :)

Thank you for taking the trouble to have a look for this information.

I had thought myself that Jimmy (I assume actually James) Youngson was possibly not born in Lanarkshire but had moved there, indeed maybe not even this, I suppose it could have been David who was first to live in Lanarkshire.

I know for certain that his son David lived in Bothwellhaugh in the mining cottages which formed part of the area known locally as 'the pailis', but this would have been in the late 1920's /30's onwards. I suppose with Glasgow and Shotts both being in neighbouring areas, it is possible Jimmy was from one of those Youngson families. Indeed, the ones you mention with Aberdeen connections could be a possibility as enquiries within the family did suggest a very vague possiblity of a link to the North East of Scotland in years gone by.

Anyways, once again,  thank you for taking this trouble it is really very much appreciated and has given me some pointers to continue my search. By the way, I don't think you said, did you notice if any of those families in the 1881 Census had any very young children by the name of James (or, guesses from David's brothers/sisters names which may have come from his dad's family, such as Henry, Liza,   Maggie)?

If anyone else does come up with something else of interest, I would obviously still like to hear it - I am now wondering if the 1901 Census would give me a better link, although Jimmy's son David was probably not  born until about 1908.

Forgot to add, I now have a possible maiden surname for Jimmy's wife as 'Nailer'. I guess he was probably married around the 1900 so the marriage may have made the 1901 census.

I will keep looking in to see if anyone has been able to find anything and hope to try Scotland's People next when I have a enough useful details on other family surnames I am researching as well.

Sorry for going on so much - thanks for bearing with me.

Lanarkshire / Look-Up or any other info.....YOUNGSON...
« on: Thursday 21 October 04 17:35 BST (UK)  »
...name in Lanarkshire.

Hello  8)

This name is not an overly common one in Lanarkshire, so wondering if anyone has any records/census matrials/etc with the name shown.

I know the family lived in the miner's cottages in Bothwellhaugh ('the pailis') in the mid 1900's. David Youngson and his wife Agnes (nee Stewart). David's dad was a Jimmy Youngson, I assume born c 1880.  I do not know when he came into the Lanarkshire area, or to which part (although it is possible he was indeed born in the area, it is more likely that he moved he came in to work in the mines).

If anyone ever comes across anything, it would be great if you could share the info here.

Thanks, in hope
  :).

Oops, should add, I have plenty of info on the family of David and Agnes, it is just the earlier years that are a bit of a blank.

Antrim / LILLEY name, Larne ......
« on: Thursday 21 October 04 16:35 BST (UK)  »

Hello, new here  8).

Could anyone out there oblige me by doing a look up please ?

Details are.....

Alexander Lilley, born 1889, Town Street, Larne

So he would have been about 12 in 1901.

Would love to find details of his parents (think names are Alexander and Anne June) and brothers/sisters. Siblings I know of are Mary and possibly, Celine. Mary married into the Thompson family, also of Larne.

Had thought the Lilley name had been in Larne for quite some time but have been unable to find any mention of it in the 1851 Census for Larne, so wondering if they were 'incomers' to the area.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks, in hope.   :)
