Warwickshire / Puver look up - Birmingham
« on: Wednesday 20 August 08 11:26 BST (UK)  »
Looking for Harriett Puver b. abt 1892 Birmingham as per IGI below or any other Puver children from around this time.

Known facts  about Harriett are:
4th Sept 1911
4 Lennox Street, Nottingham ,James Puver was born to mother Harriett Puver a Lace hand, birth registered by H Puver, mother on the 27th Sept 1911.

4th October 1913 Register Office, Nottingham
Harriett Puver spinster aged 22 of 1 High Pavement Yard, High Pavement, Nottingham married Arthur Tom Luty.

On the marriage Cert. Harriett stated her father was Tom Puver (deceased) Bricklayer.

PROBLEM

Where was Harriett born? according to the marriage cert (aged 22) that would make her year of birth abt 1892.
I cannot find her on the 1901 census, and she is not coming up on Ancestry BMD or FreeBMD at all.

I have found  on the IGI (extracted):
Harrietta Puver
Birth: 8th June 1892
Christening: 4th Sept 1892 Birmingham, Warwickshire
Father: Thomae Puver
Mother: Annae McManus Puver

On the BMDIndex:
Harriet Purver
Apr-June Q 1892 Coventry 6d 622

I have been unable to find Tom (Thomas) Puver on any census,

1901 Census Aston Birmingham
I have found a Thomas Puffer (1860 Birmingham) with wife Elizabeth (1860 Birmingham) and daughter Harriett (1892 Birmingham), but this Thomas is an Iron Plate Worker not a Bricklayer.
(On the 1891 Census Thomas was still married to Elizabeth and was still an Iron Plate Worker)

This clearly isn't the Thomae and Annae from the IGI, I cannot find them on any census.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Many thanks

England / Bigamous marriage?
« on: Thursday 14 August 08 15:25 BST (UK)  »
Mary Watling married Robert Lincoln  on 30th August 1823 Whitwell, Norfolk, 3 children born (1 survived) Caroline b. 23 January 1830 Sparham Norfolk.
In 1831 Robert was convicted of being a 'Swing Rioter' and was sentanced to be transported to Australia he Sailed on the 14/4/1831 from Portsmouth on the Proteus landing at Van Dieman's Land on the 3/8/1831.
In June Q 1838 Norwich, Mary (Lincoln) married Benjamin Linstead, they had one son Benjamin b.1839 Elmham, Norfolk.
On 5 September 1836 Hobart, Tasmania, Australia Robert Lincoln married Mary Ann Hodgson in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, (8 children born).

Question: Did both Mary and Robert marry bigamously? What would have been the law on Mary's situation (being left in England after Robert was transported).

all the best

Norfolk / Rachel Mays - baptism look up please - Grimston (?)
« on: Wednesday 06 August 08 13:00 BST (UK)  »
Looking for Rachel Mays baptism possibly in Grimston.
She married George Collison 1st December 1832 Grimston.
Rachel is on the 1841 Census (born abt 1816) in Grimston with George and family, she died March Q 1845 (Grimstone?).

There is one other Mays family on the 1841/1851 censuses in Grimston:
Elijah Mays 1786 Lynn
Mary   1791 South Acre
Eliza 1826 ?
Martha 1826 ?
Robert 1828 Grimston

There are 2 other May's  in Grimston  (1841)who I think may be children of Elijah and Mary
Elizabeth 1821 ?
Elijah 1821 ?

The IGI has a submitted record (take with BIG pinch of salt lol) that Elijah Mays married Mary abt 1806 South Acre....if this is correct Elijah and Mary could be poss parents to Rachel (wishful thinking lol)

I have trawled the IGI without any luck, no marriage, no christenings.

could some kind person  ;D help?

many thanks

Norfolk / Help please with Horace David Burt !!!!
« on: Saturday 12 April 08 13:12 BST (UK)  »
I have Horace David Burt (b. 1888 Hingham, Norfolk) WW1 service records, on this it states that he married Beatrice Kirby Windom 31st December 1916 Parish Church, Hingham  (see image).
I have brought up BMD record of this marriage  for Horace ...Dec Q 1916 Forehoe Norfolk (Vol 4b pg 395) and cross referenced with the name Windom.
The name on the corresponding BMD record is Elizabeth K Windom ???
Taking this a bit further I have found a birth record for an Annie K Burt Dec Q 1921 Forehoe  Norfolk (Vol 4b pg 302) which says mothers name Windom. (Horace and Elizabeth/Beatrice's daughter?)

I have searched censuses for ???  Windom/ Windorn and other variations and drawn a complete blank for Elizabeth/Beatrice.........likewise with birth records ???

Can SKP please help me find Elizabeth/Beatrice?

many thanks
