Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / Manchester Cathedral - SWEENEY *COMPLETED*
« on: Thursday 08 January 09 13:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I would be over the moon if someone was able to look-up two marriages that took place at Manchester Cathedral:

Oct/Nov/Dec Quarter 1852 - James SWEENEY to Mary Ann GRACE

Oct/Nov/Dec Quarter 1853 - James SWEENEY to Mary DAGNAM/DIGNAM

I'm particularly interested in the full details of the bride (including fathers name) and the names of the witnesses.

Hoping someone can help.

Best Wishes, Kirsty  :)

Europe / German Immigrants - DIEHL
« on: Tuesday 06 January 09 20:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I'm feeling a little lost with my German ancestors and just don't know how to move forward. I'm hoping someone reading will be able to give me a little help and perhaps point me in the right direction.

I have a Christiana DIEHL and a Maria DIEHL who I believe are sisters (on each woman's marriage certificate they give their father's name as Peter DIEHL).
Christiana is my ancestor and I believe Maria was her sister.

I've found Christiana with the following name spellings:
Christiana or Christina - DIEHL, DAIL or DALE.
Maria appears to have anglicised her Christian name to Mary.

I've found Christiana's place of birth on different censuses as:
Germany or Hesse-Darmstadt or Frankford N K.

Maria was born c. 1821
Christiana was born c. 1830

Maria DIEHL married a Frederick LENZ at Manchester cathedral in 1850.
Christiana DIEHL and her future husband, James LITTLER, appear as witnesses at the marriage.

1851 Census - Bury, Lancashire
Source Citation: Class HO107; Piece 2214; Folio 293; Page 57.
Christiana appears as a lodger with the surname DALE, is unmarried and listed as a musician. Her place of birth is given as Frankford, N K.
Also in the same residence as Christiana is a lodger by the name of Mary Ann DALE with the place of birth Frankford, N K. This is the only place I have seen Mary Ann and do not know if she is related to Christiana. Could she have been a sister or a cousin?

Does anyone know what the "N K" after Frankford might mean?
Also, given on the censuses I've found Christiana's birth place as Hesse-Darmstadt or Frankford does this mean Christina was possibly from Frankfurt?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Best Wishes, Rowan  :)

Anglesey / 1861 Census - Holyhead
« on: Friday 28 November 08 19:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Could anyone make-out the address for me off the 1861 census?

Source Citation: Class RG9; Piece 4372; Folio 75; Page 44.

The address is in Holyhead but beyond that I'm really struggling.

The households I'm interested in are the KELLY and MOORE households.

Many thanks for reading. Best Wishes, Rowan  :)

Caernarvonshire / Name of Witness - Bangor Wedding
« on: Friday 28 November 08 18:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Can anyone help me decipher the name of a witness at a 1860 Bangor wedding? The first witness is Valentine KELLY and the second witness is Sarah Anne BUNLING or BUNKING or something else? Anyone got any suggestions on the surname of the second witness?

I'm also trying to find the second witness, Sarah Anne on the 1861 census. A year after the marriage the bride and groom, Thomas Moore and Catherine Kelly, were living in Holyhead:

Any help / suggestions would be wonderful. Thanks for reading, Rowan  :)

Caernarvonshire / Roman Catholic Chapel Bangor
« on: Friday 28 November 08 14:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I've got a marriage certificate here and I'm trying to work out where the marriage took place.

The certificate says the marriage was solemnized at "The Roman Catholic Chapel Bangor in the district of Bangor".

Can any one identify this Church / Chapel? The marriage took place in 1860 between Thomas MOORE and Catherine KELLY (both from Ireland).

Many thanks, Rowan  :)

Scotland / 3rd Scottish General Hospital
« on: Thursday 06 November 08 16:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Wondering if any one can tell me about the "3rd Scottish General Hospital"?

I've viewed a soldiers WW1 service records and it says that he was admitted to the 3rd Scottish General Hospital on the 06/10/1917.

I wanted to learn more about the hospital. Does it still exist? Where was/is it? Was it a specialist hospital of any kind? Has it been renamed? Anything really.

Thanks for reading. Regards, Rowan  :)

« on: Monday 03 November 08 20:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

Wondering if anyone can help me date a photo. If the photo is of who I think it's of then the lady was born 1863. Unfortunately I don't know what year the lady died.

Many thanks, Rowan  :)
