Canada / Tracking my G Grandad's movements
« on: Monday 19 September 05 22:46 BST (UK)  »
I have several questions that I'd appreciate some help with.

1) My Great Grandfather and family moved to Canada between 1904 and 1908. Can someone recommend how I could track down when they emigrated/which ship they were on?

2) My Grandmother's sister was born in Canada in 1908.  How would I go about tracking down her birth and maybe obtaining a copy of the birth certificate?

3) The family were still in Canada in 1915 when my g grandfather joined the CEF.  His attestation papers give his address as Porter Ville, Maynooth, Hastings County, Ontario and the place of attestation was Belleville, Ontario.  Does anyone have any idea on which part of the Ontario census I might find that place?

4) My G Gradndfather arrived in England and joined his army unit on 7 March 1915.  Sometime between then and Mar 1916 my G Grandmother and the children emigrated back to England - again, how would I track down that information & the ship she sailed on?

Kind Regards,
Sharon

Warwickshire / Re: WARRINGTON family Warwicks.

Hi Al,

Thank you so much for taking the trouble; I didn't really expect anyone to go out of their way for me. I really do appreciate you taking a look at the records though.

I've just realised I had a disconnect between brain and fingers with Thomas' christening - according to the IGI he was christened 29 Jan 1723 (not October as I typed before).  I would have thought he should be there somewhere because the IGI does show it as an 'extracted' christening record rather than something someone has subitted to the IGI.  Ah well, never mind. The search goes on.

Thank you for your trouble.

Hi Bev,

I haven't come across a Thomas Warrington in my tree after the one who was christened in 1723 - although I am sure that I have not uncovered all the children in each family yet.  There's still lots of research to do, but at the moment I cannot help with those names.

Sharon

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 - SIMPSON in Norwich
« on: Tuesday 07 June 05 19:39 BST (UK)  »
Thanks Nicky,

This looks like the family I was looking for.  All I need to do now is find the missing children.  Maybe they were with the grandparents - but there are probably too many William & Elizabeth Simpson's (or Stimpson according to a baptism record) to look up - and I have no idea whether they stayed in Hockering or moved to Norwich too.  I'll probably have to wait until the 1841 census comes online before I find out.

Many thanks for this information.
Kind regards,
Sharon

Warwickshire / WARRINGTON family Warwicks.

I'm looking for someone researching the following people so that I can confirm or deny these links into my family tree.  I had a 'bit of as roll' on the IGI last night and need to confirm that these people are fathers and sons.

1) Daniel WARRINGTON  =  Catherine SCATTERGOOD
Marriage: 04 Nov 1715 in Bulkington Warwickshire (IGI Batch M040032)
(Christenings appear to indicate that Daniel could be Daniel WERRINGTON who was christened 1690/1692 in Maxey Northamptonshire) (IGI Batch P011991)
Catherine (Katrine) christened 09 Jul 1693 in Nuneaton Warwick. (IGI Batch C042432)

2) Thomas WARRINGTON  =  Phoebe (Unknown)
Thomas christened 29 Oct 1723 in Nuneaton Warwickshire (IGI Batch C042432)

3) Daniel WARRINGTON  =  Elizabeth (Unknown)
Daniel christened 22 Apr 1739 in Churchover Warwickshire (IGI Batch C040092)

4) Daniel WARRINGTON  =  Jane ROE (or ROWE)
Daniel christened 20 Oct 1771 in Monks Kirby, Warwickshire (IGI Batch C043741)
Jane christened 02 Jun 1776 in Ellastone, Staffordshire (Igi Batch P010101)
Marriage 30 Sept 1799 in Ellastone Staffordshire (IGI Batch M010102)

5) Daniel Warrington  =  Elizabeth HILL
Daniel Christened 29 Jun 1800 in Elastone Staffordshire (IGI Batch P010101)
Marriage 10 Feb 1825 in Rocester Staffordshire (IGI Batch M010081)

6) George WARRINGTON  =  Elizabeth PERCIVAL
George christened 07 May 1843 in Swinton Lancs (IGI Batch C033651)
Marriage 27 Aug 1863 in Manchester Lancs (Certificate held)

All of the above (except for George who's marriage certificate I hold - so father's occupation and name shown and ties into Daniel (no 5) on the 1861 census) have had parent names taken from their christening records on the IGI.  I just need to be sure I've got the right parents so that I can start tracing their other children.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sharon

Hi Margaret,

I just had a failure trying to post the image in here - it's too large.  I'll send you a personal message with my e-mail address.  Please e-mail me and I'll send you the file.

Hi Mick,

Thanks for these links.  The unit history was very interesting to read.  There was also a link to the WO records on A2A on one of those sites - but I still couldn't find my ancestor using that link either.  Ah well.......the search goes on.

Sharon

Hi Casalguidi,

Thanks for the link; it looks useful. Unfortunately on this occasion I've not been lucky...but you never know.  I've come to the conclusion that there was no inquest for this death.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Which military records for York in 1876?
« on: Sunday 13 March 05 11:05 GMT (UK)  »
My 2xgt grandfather (Stephen Edward Butler) was born in Kent but married in York in November 1876.  On his marriage certificate his occupation was a Private in the 6th Dragoon Guards and his place of residence was the Barracks, York. Does anyone have any tips for finding out more about his military life in York?  I haven't found anything on A2A and I don't seem to have much luck with the National Archives website (but that's probably down to user error  :-\) What other sources could I try?

Thanks,
Sharon
