Neither Emily nor James are buried at St Matthew, Rastrick, so possibly cemetery burials.

Amended:  Oops, sorry, records available on-line only go to 1880  :'(  :-[

Well, it's not Bury in Lancashire - no marriages for William Smith between January 1936 and December 1944 - also from FreeBMD.

Hi, Heather.  No, sorry, not me.  I just happen to have these Firths in my tree, their father is my great grandmother's brother, and their sister married my great uncle, son of my great grandmother.  Complicated!  And as the Manchester records have just been added to Ancestry, I was doing a bit more on the Firth family in Manchester, as opposed to the Firth family in Yorkshire.

There is someone doing something with the Firth name in the North of England - firthworks.com - but he's not got as much information on my Firth connections as I have.

Thank you very much.

The 1926 entry is almost certainly the same Nelson Firth.  The 1945 is possibly his son, George Nelson Firth, as Nelson is buried in 1937 in the Southern Cemetery.

I'll see if I can gain access to the Guardian archives, and look at the A2A entry.

Again, thank you.

Having looked at the advertisement again, and found others on the same site, I realise that this Ernest Firth is in New Zealand.  ;D

That is why I always try to check the details - no offence meant, Heather, you were being very kind.  :-*

Thank you very much indeed for the information.  I've looked at the advertisement, and will be contacting the two Colleges and looking at the newspaper archives.  So that's a few days' work accounted for  ;D

Again, thank you so much.

I'm not sure that I'm posting this in the right place, but, hey  8)

I have a family living in Hulme (Manchester), and three of the sons are musicians of one sort or another.  Father is an Engineer, so no musical connections there!

Marshall Firth - Organ Builder (1881), Musical Director (1891), Pianist (1901) and Professor of Music (1911)
Ernest Firth - Organ Builder (1881), Tenor Vocalist (1891), Professional Vocalist (1901) and Professional Singer (1911)
Nelson Firth - Pianist (1891), Pianist (1901) and Pianist and Arranger of Music (1911)

Does anyone have any thoughts on where I might find further information on these three brothers, specifically to do with their musical careers?

Thank you  :-*

The Common Room / Re: Birth certificate of an adopted person
« on: Saturday 09 February 13 16:05 GMT (UK)  »
I've just had a look at OH's birth certificate - he was formally adopted by his mother and stepfather, following divorce.  He was born in 1940 and the date of issue on the "short-form" certificate is 1955.  The date on the adoption papers is also 1955.
