"Syncope" =

Syncope is the medical term for fainting or passing out. It is caused by a temporary drop in the amount of blood that flows to the brain. This leads to loss of consciousness and muscle control. The person then falls down or over, which allows blood flow to return to the brain.

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Marriage Lookup

Ancestry have the image - Henry was a Bachelor and Sarah was a widow.  The marriage was by Licence.  Henry is shown as Henry Giles Esq - the only person listed as such on the page!

Ages must be from the Allegation, as no ages on parish record - and the marriage was said to be took place on 7 May 1789, not 5 May.

You could try contacting the church, and asking the question.

George Brookes' occupation on the marriage entry for his daughter, Harriet, is Boat Loader.

There is a birth registration in September quarter 1883 - Wolverhampton RD, which covers Bilston - of Harriet Lydia Brookes.  :-\

GRO give mother's maiden name as Humphage.  Can't see a marriage of Brookes and Humphage.  :-\

Ops, I have no connections at all to Scotland - but I hope that you (and everyone else) continue to benefit from the expansion of records available to us all.   ;D ;D

Durham / Re: William Smith marriage

As this is pre-1837, it is not unusual for there being no parish recorded for groom and/or bride.  I've found a lot of marriages just record "of this parish" which possibly means that both or either party were only there for the 3 weeks required for the banns to be read.

Plus as the FindMyPast entry is from Northumberland and Durham FHS, then I would take the details as reliable.

The Common Room / Well done FindMyPast!

Just for a change I would like to compliment one of our search sites!

On 8 March, FindMyPast launched a new item - Women's Land Army records.  I did my usual and entered the surname of Archbell (a lot easier than Appleyard, Kendall or Milner).  One result - Doreen Archbell.  BUT whilst the transcript fitted, the image did not.  So I rang them to ask for a correction.  After the weekend I received a response, and all is now OK - correction made and 15 March able to see Doreen's card.

Thank you FindMyPast  8)  (I have thanked them directly).
