Do you have the christening details of all of John & Jane Lloyd's children? What address was recorded for each child in the register?

In some cases, newly weds 1st couple of children may/could have been born at the grandparents (i.e. John Lloyd or his wife Jane's parents) address?

It will be a bit of a trawl but maybe use those address details to try and locate who is living at the address on the 1841 census to see if that holds any clues.

If you post the christening details for John's children, I'd be willing to check for you.

Alternatively - you could ask the Archivist at Cardigan to search for leases, deeds, wills or mentions of the properties that the family lived in.

Might be worth a shot?

Hi there - just a suggestion. When I traced my Morgan and Jones relations at Llanfihangel Y Creuddyn and Eglwys Newydd for the same time frame - some of the baptism records were recorded using the old Welsh patronymic naming system.

In brief - the child was given the father's christian name as his/her surname

Consequently, you may have to look for a baptism of a John son of Lloyd ?? c1791 and not a John Lloyd.

Best of luck!

Thanks casalguidi  :)

If anyone is going to the Greenwich Heritage Centre - could they still do me a massive favour & check the baptism records that casalguidi found (details above) to see if the father's occupation is listed as Fisherman?

Wow! Thanks for that - this might be the answer I've been looking for!! ;D

Do you happen to know if the actual register for the marriage or birth records would record the father's occupation?

Hi there - is anyone due to visit the Greenwich Heritage Centre in the near future?

If SKS is and if they are willing, I wonder if they could help with the following.

I'm looking for baptism/christening records for a Dinah (maybe Diana or even plain Ann) BIDDLE born Greenwich c1829. I do know she had a sister Elizabeth BIDDLE that was born c1825 also in Greenwich - father's name given as William Biddle, Fisherman by trade on their marriage certs.

Info re any other siblings or a parental marriage would also be appreciated if you have the time.

If there's anything I can do to help you in return just shout!

Nige

Dear Sue

I wonder if you could look for any reference to any BIDDLEs (also seen with various phonetic spellings as BIDDEL, BEDALL etc).

My Gtx3 Grandmother (Dinah Biddle)'s marriage certificate in 1850 (residence address given as Putney for bride & groom) records her father as William Biddle Fisherman. Dinah gives her place of birth (c1829) as Greenwich, Kent.

A William Biddle signed as witness so I'm assuming (if that was her father) he was still alive in 1850.

She married a Joseph DEARMAN (b Wandsworth c1818), a Coal Porter who was son of Joseph Dearman - also a Fisherman.

Any refs to these names would be much appreciated

Hi there - quite possible that there is a link - they seem to be quite a large and well established family.

Who were the most "recent" Emerys in your tree?

Drop me a PM with your email address and perhaps we can exchange data - see if there is a link  :)

Hi Jason

I'll see if I can help as well - can you let me know what David Rees & Charlotte's marriage certificate actually says please?

Just a few things

I've found the family on the census in 1851 & 1861 - FYI they were living at Bryn Sion Street. This was a street that ran alongside Bryn Sion (also spelled Seion) Chapel in Dowlais & there was quite a large burial ground attached to the chapel.

It looks like Charlotte died June Quarter 1863 and she may have been buried "over the road" in Bryn Sion Chapel burial ground?

I doubt the burial registers still exist for that year but there may have been a transcript of the headstones so would recommend contacting the library at Dowlais, Merthyr (e-mail: library.services [at] merthyr.gov.uk - Tel: 01685 723051) in case they hold any info.

I think I may have found David Rees on the 1871 census living as a Boarder with his son Benjamin at Dowlais Inn Yard.

David Rees (Boarder Widower 56? Collier b Carmarthenshire) & Benjamin Rees (Boarder 17 Haulier b Dowlais) are living with a widow Ann Jones age 42 - her daughter Mary Jones (22) & Grandson Benjamin (3) - all b Dowlais.

Possible death registrations for David Rees in March Q 1877 (age 65) OR June Q 1878 (age 66) - both in Merthyr.

If David (& possibly Charlotte) were not buried in Bryn Sion Chapel grounds - the other possible graveyard could be Pant Cemetery which opened in 1860. Best to contact the Cemetaries department (Email: bereavementservices [at] merthyr.gov.uk - Tel: 01685 725145 or 725146) and they may be able to trace a burial record.

Checking the birth registers - in the Upper district of Merthyr Tydfil (the area which Dowlais fell under) - I found births registered for;

Abigail (1856), Benjamin (1853), Gwenllian (1854), Miriam (1858) & Rees (1850) - mother maiden name recorded as Evans (John) NB not Jones.

So it looks like there was another daughter Abigail born 1856 - death reg March Q 1857 Merthyr.

Let us know the details of the marriage certificate & I'll see if there's anything else I can find out.

All the very best
Nige  :)
