Kent Completed Lookup Requests / St Paulinus, Crayford Kent COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 12 February 09 19:53 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone please do a lookup for a baptism in 1950?  It probably took place around Sept/ Oct  time.  All details would be welcome, but I am especially interested in the exact names of the godparents. ( some of them might be French). Hoping that someone can help. Thank you    ama50

US Lookup Requests / Re: Matilda Witherow arrived USA 1912.....

Thanks  Shelly for pointing out the link. Reading it gave me lots more info.  I now know the married names of Dorothy's sisters and that Helen had pre-deceased her. It's all quite exciting, as until a few months ago all these people were unknown to me.  My late father used to say " a branch of the Witherow's went to the USA", but he knew nothing more, and was not interested enough to ask anyone.   ama

Thank you for your prompt replies.

Jacquie : Those census entries seem very possible, but how sad to think that Matilda (who was my grandfather's sister) may have died so young, leaving a family.

shellyesq: the yearbooks made very interesting reading, and do seem to connect with what I already know.

              Many thanks     ama

Further to my posting in November. I believe that Matilda married [unkown] Knox. They had 3 daughters, Helen, Grace and Dorothy. The town of Doylestown Pa. may be a connection, but I'm not sure. I have tried looking up details, but have had no luck. Can anyone help ?  Thanks  ama50

I am impressed !!!!!! I could not make out much on the Ellis Island entry but I am pleased that Matilda was going to join relatives and not setting out without support on arriving in USA.

I knew that a branch of the Witherow family emigrated and Pennsylvania seems to be where a lot of Witherows ended up. I will follow up your suggestions. Thank You ama50

Thank you for finding that. I agree, especially as it seems the family members did not always use their first names. I will follow your useful lead and see if I can discover more.

« on: Tuesday 04 November 08 14:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi anyone. I am trying to find out what happened to Matilda Witherow when she arrived in USA. She came in through Ellis Island in 1912 on the California.

Matilda was born 20 Oct 1892 and baptized at Boveedy Presbyterian Church near Kilrea Co. Derry.

I know nothing after her arrival in USA.

   She had 3 brothers.

          James b.1886
John    b.1889 who went to England about 1912 and married in London.
William b. 1895 who continued farming in the Kilrea area.

Their parents names were John Witherow and Matilda Barnett.

If someone can help I would be so pleased   Thank You   ama50
