Australia Lookups completed / Re: Frank MITCHELL, Newcastle, NSW c.1922
« on: Monday 15 November 10 09:18 GMT (UK)  »
  Thank you to everyone!

I had been unable to track Frank & Evelyne in England,
so was just wondering if they had gone to join Robert
in Australia. This info will mean I can focus on UK.

Yes, that is them in the Dartford area.

      Many thanks,      ama

Australia Lookups completed / Frank MITCHELL, Newcastle, NSW c.1922 COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 14 November 10 21:14 GMT (UK)  »
   Can anyone help please ?

Frank Mitchell, b.1888 in England, has an address in NSW in 1921.
This is on his British Army service record.
The address is:

   Denison Street, Mayfield, NSW.

He married Evelyne Hobden in 1922 in England, but I would like to
know if they went back to Australia, as Frank's brother was out
there.  ( Rootschatters have kindly found his details already,
Robert Mitchell was in Ballarat, Victoria.)

Any info. would be be very helpful.

          Thank you      ama

Kent / Re: Venus Family
« on: Sunday 11 July 10 19:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

Do you know of the Medwaycityark site?

I am sure that I have noticed the name Venus among parish records for Dartford churches
when I have been searching my own families, but didn't notice where exactly.

It is a very useful site, but needs to be trawled through parish by parish.

I hope this might be useful.       ama

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: The Briars, Longfield, Kent
« on: Saturday 26 June 10 17:04 BST (UK)  »
Hello Tilly,

I had another look at Longfield on Cityark today.

Edward Charles Clifford married Annie Elizabeth Vidler 25 Aug 1894.
          Worth a look I think ?

I found an entry in the Times Online (available through some county libraries),
which announced the birth of a child to a family called Murray in 1884, living at
the Briars, so the Clifford's must have arrived between then and 1886 when we
see the marriage of Blanche to Walter Rope.

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: The Briars, Longfield, Kent
« on: Friday 25 June 10 20:46 BST (UK)  »
Hello Tilly,

     bearkat's suggestion to look on Cityark site is a good one,  I had a quick look, and found;
Eliza Clifford died Nov 1890 age 59 buried at Longfield as Lizzie was. Could  Eliza be Lizzie's
mother?

I also found a marriage of Blanche Mary Clifford to Walter Frederick Rope 24 Feb 1886 at Longfield.
The entry is hard to read but could it be your family?

Longfield was very rural in the 1890's and the larger houses seemed to be occupied by owners of
local firms or retired people. It was only 25 miles from London and there was a local station.

When I can next visit Longfield (in 4-6 weeks) I will ask the local library about "The Briars", also Electroll Rolls, and have a wander round the churchyard but can't promise anything.

             Hope this helps     Ama

  Hello Tilly,       Re Longfield church.

Did your request get answered? If not, then can you give more details, as I know that

area, and may have some ideas if you are still stuck.

Witherow,

Thank you for the reply and offer of help.
As you will have seen from my posts, I do not know anything about the earlier family.
However, Barnett was the surname, (not Barrett), that much I do know.

James, born 1886, son of John & Matilda joined the British Army, and survived the Great War, so Rose Witherow in 1911 Belfast was probably not his.
John, born 1889 went to London and married there in 1912.
Matilda born 1892, went to USA in 1912 where she married.
William born 1895 remained farming ( later at Laragh townland, DED The Grove, Co. Derry)

I'm sorry not to be more specific, but would love to know how the family ended up where it did,
I hope it will become clearer with the 1901 census.

               Thank you again,    ama

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: Witherow families, Aughlish, Gallony, Belfast and elsewhere
« on: Wednesday 28 April 10 20:20 BST (UK)  »
Just caught up with this thread.

Some time ago, aghadowey, and others, were helpful with my Witherow research.
As Witherow is a new member, I wonder if he/she has come across my family. They were
at  Killygullib Glebe, Bovedy, near Kilrea in the 1911 census, (transcribed as Withrow), but I have no idea where they came from before that. I hope the 1901 census will help, but any ideas would be
gratefully accepted.    Thank you    ama

Australia / Re: MITCHELL/Ballarat
« on: Wednesday 04 November 09 12:34 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you so much especially to sparrett and cando.

You info has helped me along a great deal. It now seems that brother Frank and his wife Evelyne, may not have remained in the Ballarat area, so following them will be another task.

       Any ideas?   Thanks again.      ama
