Australia / Military personnel who settled in Early Australia.
« on: Saturday 28 July 07 15:16 BST (UK)  »
Anyone know any good active websites who keep lists of the Military personnel who settled in early Australia?
I tried to contact one to ask them to update their  entries for Mathew Walker, mentioned in a recent topic on this board.   No reply.
Any advice out there?
Pete

Thanks eise, little meg, and Suffolkmawther, your input is appreciated.
Ozybob - I checked your list against my records, I'm up to date now.
Only one outstanding was Elizabeth Walker, b 1842, d 1842, buried at Norfolk Island Cemetery.   She was listed as having died 1849 due to a mis-transcription  on a renovated gravestone.
Jenn - I've emailed my cuz in Brisbane re Isabella Theresa Walker, get her take on it.
cheers

Hi Ozybob, cheers.
Albert Ernest's entry, there is a tiny notation just above his name - 18 months.
Cando - Sorry, I was wrong there re Isabella's birthplace, thanks for the correction.   I meant  to turn in, but I've sat up reading notes on the family.
Jenn and the ladies - I think Isabella Theresa is good, but I'll wait till I confirm her parents.    I have a slight reservation about her age when married.   I'll let you know how I get on.
I've really enjoyed my visit to the Australian pages, and it's been a productive visit.
Thanks again
Pete

Hi,
laughing, I draft a reply, and when I send, a red message comes up - when you were typing etc.
jen - does Isabella Theresa have a date of marriage, i would guess at 1868, around age 21.
We had Albert Ernest down as 18, but when I read the dob you had, I looked closed - there is a tiny notation above the "18", it will be months.
Cando - spent ages last night looking them up on LDS - as with all LDS multiple entries, there are variations on a theme.   I'm trying to work my through them.
Your help and input is appreciated.

Didn't publish the whole certificate,  copyright rules?
It is a Queensland death certificate, Jane Halladay, wife of Mathew Walker, died16 June 1858 Brisbane.
A cuz in Brisbane has been searching, I believe she will have looked everywhere.   Others have been looking too, quite a bit re the family on LDS.
Isabella was born in Brisbane, the others in Brisbane, Norfolk Island, and Sydney.
Thanks for having a go folks, it's appreciated.  I don't want to take up people's time and resources,  I'm hoping someone will decode it, I've been looking at it for hours.    Irish mother, Scottish father who was a soldier, could be anything!
cheers

Australia / Any idea what this name is?

Hi,
any idea what  the name is?
I've got Mary Ann, Margaret Victoria, Eliza Jane, Ella Elizabeth, and Albert Ernest.    The puzzle is Isabella's second name?
I thought it might be Teamhair, an Irish girl's name, the old name for the Hill of Tara?
I would say the first letter is "T", I've included the "where born" box so you can see the "T" of Tyrone.

Inverness / Re: Anyone recognise this old graveyard? Update
« on: Friday 20 July 07 15:34 BST (UK)  »
I've checked out images of the renovated graveyard near the ruins of Inverlochy Castle - that's not the graveyard.   The old graves I saw were out on the moors, nowhere near anything.
