Can anyone enlightened me as to who John married, where, and when?

Produced a number of children with Jane whom, I presume, he was married to

Children:   Charles, born Coal Aston, baptised Dronfield, Derbyshire, 1808 / William, Treeton, 1810 / Thomas, Treeton 1813 / Elizabeth, St Peter's, Sheffield, 1815 / Benjamin, St Peter's, Sheffield, 1818. Possibly John, St Peter's, 1828.

I have been trying for years, but have found nothing.

I believe John Handley, born 1756, married at Aston cum Aughton in 1780.

Can some kind person put me out of my misery and tell me who he married and when.

That brilliant. They both needed a spruce up. Thank you very much.

If you could get them to talk that would be great. I need to ask them some questions.

These photographs are marked as being the work of Harris Son & Co., Merthyr.

Looking at old newspaper notices and adverts, the firm appears to have traded under the name Harris & Co. from 1871 to December 1877. From 1878 it traded under the name Harris Son & Co.

Robert Dodds Scott (born about 1802, Ancrum) died in 1873.

It would appear that the photo alleged to be RDS was therefore taken sometime after his death.

If anyone knows the identity of the man shown, please let me know. He's almost certainly a Scott from the Merthyr Tydfil area of Glamorgan, Wales.

Many thanks Jim1 for your patience in explaining all this. The people I have in mind as the subjects, the dress style, and the technology, all seem to fit together nicely, which is very encouraging. Your efforts are much appreciated.

Many thanks. I'm now getting the idea. Would I be correct in presuming that the shellac would have to go on the opposite side of the glass to the light sensitive coating? In which case there would be no option of reversing the image. Am I correct therefore in understanding that all Ambrotype images are 'mirror images'?

Many thanks Jim1. I'm getting there slowly. With the Ambrotype, could you not reverse the image by viewing it from the reverse direction.I understand that it's an image on a glass plate with a dark backing material to enable viewing, or have I got that wrong?

Hi again Jim1. For the purpose of clarity, the bit I don't understand is how the wedding ring, which presumably was on her left hand, appears on her right hand in the copy.
