Jospeh born 1856, Llangendeirne, mason.
Wary Ann born 1860, Llangendeirne.

In 1891 I have them living with their family in Penrheol, Cilgarw, Llangendeirne.

I can't find anything about them before 1891 and would welcome any earlier evidence of either or both of them.

This line has emanated from a 99 cM DNA match that I share with a maternal cousin so the connection is most likely to be from somewhere around Brechfa, LLanegwad, Felingwm or Llanllawddog. Less likely would be from around Llanybydder or Rhydcymerau.

They are the maternal grandparents of my match's mother and I will copy this post again for the paternal grandparents.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: DNA Results In! :-o
« on: Monday 01 July 19 22:04 BST (UK)  »
I found it far too difficult to use my DNA results to hunt down a particular branch of my tree. Instead, DNA matches have been most useful when they reveal "relatives" who I still cannot join to my tree. It's the shared matches that provide some sort of framework for the four hundred 4th to 6th cousins in my DNA results and for most of whom I have still almost no idea precisely how we are related. BUT...

I match to Tom.

I match to Dick and he shows as a "shared match" to Tom. So, Tom, Dick and I are related to each other... somehow!

Dick and I also have a "shared match" with Harry and I can find a connection between Harry and an ancestor in my tree by the name of Ingram.

I can conclude that Tom, Dick and Harry are all connected to me through my Ingram great-great-grandmother or her direct ancestors whose cousins settled in England, Canada, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Moscow having originally come from Aberdeenshire, Scotland and my line spreading out via Abergavenny, Wales.

So far forty-six of my matches are an Ingram connection but I can only find a paper trail for four of them

I've been hammering away at my DNA results for over two years and I still have to get to Gedmatch!!!

In summary, I think it best to treat your tree and your DNA activities as two entirely separate genealogical activities that very occasionally overlap (but not often).

Thanks Stan,

the year in question was 1966. The care home fits the narrative perfectly. Must be wrong then :P

Carmarthenshire / Evan Jones 1839 Felingwm and Utah FHL Lookup please
« on: Saturday 29 June 19 12:31 BST (UK)  »
Greetings Fellow Addicts :o

I would love to know the contents of the baptismal record for Evan Jones b1839 In Brechfa, Llanegwad or Abergorlech. He was the son of John Jones and Susanna Titus. He emigrated to Utah in 1862 and became a senior figure in the Mormon Church.

The is an ancestry hint for his baptism but only gives a FHL film number: 105218.

Is some kind person able to appraise me of the contents of this record?

Many thanks.

Technical Help / Re: Anybody out there familiar with "Pingplotter" and TCP/IP
« on: Thursday 27 June 19 11:46 BST (UK)  »
Thanks HarryW,

I have had BT engineers on-site several times but they assure me the line is working properly. The last time I pad £86 for the privilege of watching an "engineer" recently demobbed from driving an army tank run through the usual BT second-line diagnostics. Generally, they don't seem to understand the significance of "packet loss" that I suspect is at the heart of my difficulties.

Trouble is that I don't understand the finer points of TCP/IP + aDSL but I want to be able to say to BT the problem is right there... an eighty-seven per cent packet loss between the router and the first BT node. Is that correct? Am I reading the trace correctly? I need to go back to BT with enough info to get past the first-line help desk that has a script and little clue as to what to do when we reach the end of it.

Sorry to be so long-winded but this has been going on for three years!!!!
