We must be the lucky ones then, Oct. 4th, flu and covid at the same time, turn up at our little surgery at the time for our alphabet surname, say hello to Sarah, tick the boxes, down the corridor, jabbed, out.

Takes about three minutes, and I am given to believe it is very lucrative for the surgery.

Slight correction, it dates from 1932 to 1938, replaced in 1938 by the Morris 8 series E, a more modern style which lasted until 1948.

I passed my test in one :)

Herefordshire / Re: John HEATH in 1811

Just when you all thought that you'd got rid of me, I'm back!

Having (I think) established that John HEATH married Elizabeth VAUGHAN in Burford SAL in 1811, where was he born? In 1851, he admits that he doesn't know! According to census data, he claims to have been born ca 1790 and a search on that basis yields several possibilities, but none in Salop. I believe that I can eliminate nearly all, and the best I can find is:-

14 Jan 1793 to Benjamin & Ann in Ledbury

This is easily the closest to Burford, but is he too young? There is no indication on the PR that parental permission was given, but that doesn't rule out his claiming to be 'of full age'.

Can anyone shed any light on this, please?

Is this one likely to be the john Heath living in bosbury in 1861, born ledbury.

Good luck with your search, as it was a town mill there may be some records, many small mills, at least here in Herefordshire worked on a barter system, one sack of flour to the miller, one to the mill owner and the rest back to the farmer whose wheat it was.

Mills ground a lot of things, not just flour, crushing oats for animal feed, crushing clover among others.

It was a very skilled task and hard work, up three flights of stairs while the sack hoist is lifting a sack of grain, tip it in the hopper, adjust the feed rate, down to the next level to get the wheels set,
Down again to see what’s happening, collect the white flour that has been seived thro the silk screen,
Bag up the brown flour, collect the remains, then start all over again.

Every week where I worked there would be a raffle,  can't tell you how many times I won but it all went into the bottom drawer, one item was a set of 6 babycham classes, kept them for years and not so long ago gave them to a charity shop, silly me, should have kept them.

LM

‘‘Twas brandy and babycham in one of those glasses that nearly put an end to our relationship before it had got going, fortunately mazi’s mum was understanding as I assisted her in lifting the somewhat inebriated body over the doorstep.

Nobody bothered about underage drinking in those days.

There is a mill shewn here, top right corner between Smithfield road and the river. Doesn’t say it’s a corn mill tho

Could he maybe have worked at the abbey mill as an employee.

We are hijacking this thread, but you will no doubt remember “the man from the pru”, in my case it was the man from the Pearl, who saw our engagement notice in the local rag, who persuaded me to take out a life insurance policy, later I was able to borrow for a mortgage on it, best thing I ever did, twenty five years later it was mine ;), and my £3000 pound semi was worth £50,000.
