Hello.  Well done in finding this new info.  I think without a doubt that this is James mother.  Excuse my ignorance but why do you think there is a Mc in front of Ellen's surname please?  If you manage to come up with anything else then do please let me know?

I'll put this info in my Tree on Ancestry and see if it throws anything else up.  Not sure now whether to put Ellen's surname in as Swiney or McSwiney.

Kindest regards,

Kathryn

Sorry,  I didn't realise that my similar post had been sent.  Perhaps I should have gone back to bed!!!!

Morning all.   Up way before my due time, not worth going back to bed now.   Thank you so much for this further information, another great find.  Am wondering if James stayed with his Mother after his birth, certainly looks that way.  Oh to have been a fly on the wall in those days!!!

If you manage to find anything else then please do let me know (as and when you have time) as am sure there are a lot of people requesting help.

I appreciate the time and effort you and others have spent on my query.

Kindest regards,

Kathryn

Morning all, up way before I am supposed to be, not worth going back to bed now.  Another great find and what a coincidence.   I wonder if James stayed with his Mother after his birth, it certainly looks like that might have been the case.  Oh to have been a fly on the wall in those days!!! If you manage to find anything else then please do let me know (as and when you have time).  Am sure there are plenty of other people who require help.

Thank you so much for this further information.   I wonder what happened to James Jnr after he was born up until he got married.  James Snr may have been married and Maria and Kate were the outcome and that James Snr had an affair with Ellen Swiney and as we know James Jnr was the outcome of that relationship.   It's possible that Maria and Kate didn't know of James and that James wasn't aware of Maria and Kate.  I do love a mystery and even more so when it unravels.  Am off to bed now as I have to be up at 5.30.  Will check tomorrow to see if there are any further messages.

Thank you again for your help and time spent on my query.

Kindest regards,

Kathryn

Well done, thank goodness for people like yourself and others who have the knowledge of where to search.  Thank you so much.   Am just puzzling over Catherine.   Somehow I worked out that she was born c1852 taken from her death cert giving her age as 81 when she died in 1933 but in the 1911 Census her age is given as 48 making her born c1863.

Thank you so much again for your help it is much appreciated.

Kindest regards,

Kathryn

Hello again.  The link I have provided doesn't seem to highlight but if you can manage to get into it this is the information that I have in my Tree.

http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/search/cwa/details.jsp?id=1639273786

Web: Ireland, Calendar of Wills and Administrations, 1858-1920

It looks like this is the same as the link you provided me for James Snr (having now reverted to my Computer I am able to open the links that you provided).  My reading of it is that Maria and Kate aforesaid Spinsters the daughters and only Legatees or am I misreading or misunderstanding the text?

Thank you once again for all of this, I will take time and look into the other links you have provided.  Another mystery about the two ladies.

Kindest regards,

Kathryn

Hiya, thank you so much for this find, am going to investigate.  Unfortunately when I click on the links you have provided it won't let me open them.  Am just going to look at my Tree to see where I got the information from regarding James Snr's Will.   Am using my tablet at the moment but will go now and fire up my Computer and revert back to you.

Kindest regards,

Kathryn

Hello.  James Snr died 16 November 1882 in the Cork Fever Hospital.   He is given as a Police Pensioner.  On James Jnr's marriage cert it is the same James Snr given as a Police Officer.   No records on Ellen other than her name being given on James Jnr's Baptism Record.   Yes, initially I was trying to find out about James Jnr's birth but if anything else could be found that would be appreciated.   Am off to prepare tea now.  I'll check later to see if there are any replies.   Thank you all for your help and time spent.  Much appreciated.
