Hello everyone.

My AncestryDNA results were:

69% Great Britain
22% Europe West
5% Ireland/Scotland/Wales
Low Confidence:
3% Scandinavia
1% Finland/Northwest Russia

I downloaded my Raw DNA Data to Myheritage and FTDNA , the results were:

Myheritage:
47.8% Scandinavian
43.6% English
5.4% East European
3.2% Italian

FTDNA:
47% British Isles
46% Scandinavia
7% Southeast Europe

I think ancestrydna's results are completely different to  myheritage and FTDNA's results.
My question is 'would you say East European, Italian, southeast Europe are the same as Europe West? (Would Italy and East Europe come under Europe West) I'm confused.

I've not traced any Italians in my family tree, why did this not show up in ancestry's results too?
It would be lovely to have Italian roots but could this DNA result be a mistake?

As for the high percentage of Scandinavia I suppose this could be as most of my family are from Yorkshire and east anglia, but if so wouldn't it have shown as a higher percentage with ancestry instead of 3%?

Which company would you say is the most accurate?

It would be great to hear about other people's results from different companies too, have yours been different?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thank you for reading

Hi everyone

I've been trying to find a Mr Will Sergeant (also spelt Serjeant), in the 1911 census and a death for him, but have had no luck.

He was born 1853 Ipswich, Suffolk but moved to London in about 1875.  He was a music hall manager in London and also a vocal comedian in the late 1800's and early 1900.  I've found a few adverts in newspapers after 1901 and it looks like he may have travelled as some adverts were from 1907 Gloucester, & Leeds but his main area was London.  He seemed to be with a lady called Chummie la Mara (burlesque comedienne).

I thought he would be easy to find in the 1911 but he just seems to have disappeared.  I can't find a death for him either  :(

If anyone has time to take a look for me this would be really appreciated and I'd be so grateful.
I'd really like to find out what happened to him as he seems to be another forgotten person who's life was so interesting.

Thank you :)

Hi

I am trying to find a death for my gg grandfather.

This is a possible death record for him but it's in French and very difficult to read.

He was Joseph Shaw and died age 79.  He died in prison in Montreal, Quebec.

He had no family with him as they were in England at the time of his death and had no idea where he was living, but he was married.

If anyone could help with the translation of the attached record this would be very much appreciated. (Hope I can attach it).

Thank you

Canada / Montreal Prison Info 1911 - Joseph Shaw?
« on: Saturday 23 July 16 21:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I've recently found information that my gg grandfather may have been in the prison in Montreal. (Pied-du-courant), as there is a possible record for him in the 1911 census Canada.

I was wondering if anyone knew any information about this prison, was it for petty crimes?

His name is Joseph Shaw born about 1845 in Halifax, Yorkshire but he travelled in 1903 to Quebec.  He left his wife and family in England.  In the England census 1911 his wife states she is married but there is no sign of Joseph, anywhere in England.

He did travel to Quebec with his brother James but James returned to England a few months later without Joseph.

If this is Joseph in the Canada 1911 census, then is there anyway I can get more information about his prison record?   Are there prison records available?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.  Thank you

Hello

I've been trying to find (for quite some time now), the parents of Robert Elliott born about 1752 In the Dewsbury/Batley (Hanging Heaton) area.

He married Hannah Wainwright on the 11 August 1791 Dewsbury all Saints.  It does say he was a widower and from Batley, a clothier.  He died on 6 November 1832 Hanging Heaton St Paul, Dewsbury/Batley.

His son George was born about 1792 Dewsbury.

I've searched but have had no luck in finding out who his parents were so I'm at a complete dead end.

If anyone could help/advise this would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Hello

I'm researching the Scargill family from Dewsbury.

William Scargill born 1752 married Nancy Haigh on 14 April 1777 at Dewsbury All Saints.  As far as I know they had at least 4 children: John, Mary, George and Ruth.

I'm trying to find a birth for him so I can find his parents names and have come across 2 possibilities.  One being 28 December 1752 at Dewsbury the father is John Scargill and the other 29 September 1752 at Thornhill the father is Thomas Scargill.

I've been led to believe that William's father was John but could it now be Thomas?

On William's marriage document there is a witness as John Scargill (could this be William's father? Or maybe John was a brother).

I know a lot of the Scargill's came from Thornhill.

If anyone could advise me or help me to find the correct father for William, this would be much appreciated, I seem to be at a dead end.  Could it be John or Thomas?

Thank you

Suffolk / Bateman WARD of Bildeston - are there 2 born abt abt 1776?
« on: Saturday 21 March 15 17:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Bateman Ward born 1776 Bildeston, Suffolk and died 1860 Ipswich.  He married Hannah Cullum and they lived in Ipswich.  Their daughter was Hannah Ward born 1800.

There is also a Bateman Ward born abt 1780 from Bildeston who married a Susan Hollox, he died 1859 Bildeston.

I can't find any record of parents for Bateman Ward born 1776 but there is a record for Bateman born 1780 (his parents were Bateman Ward and Elizabeth Jennings).

These cant surely be the same person as they married a different person and died different years, but how many Bateman Ward's could there be born around the same time and same town of Bildeston?  Bateman isn't exactly a common name.

This is so confusing.  If anyone could help find a record of Bateman born 1776's parents that would be much help and greatly appreciated.  Or if anyone could help confirm that there were 2 Bateman's that would be appreciated too.

Thank you :)

Suffolk Lookup Requests / HAUGHLEY Baptism lookup pls - ELIZA possibly YOUNGMAN?
« on: Tuesday 24 February 15 20:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I think Elizabeth Smith was born abt 1830 in Badwell Ash, Suffolk.
I know she married John Bannister of Mendlesham in 1854.
I have found a baptism record for a Elizabeth Smith of Badwell Ash in 1830 with parents a Robert Smith and Eliza. If this is correct record could Eliza be Eliza Youngman?
In the 1851 census Eliza is born abt 1799 Haughley.
I cannot find any other Eliza who married a Robert Smith.
If anyone could help me find Eliza's maiden name and parents this would be much appreciated.
Thank you

The Common Room / Olga Secker nee Martino - SS Orcades 1940 Passenger list?
« on: Sunday 11 January 15 17:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I'm trying to do some research for a family member but unfortunately it is very confusing.
Olga Martino was born in Genoa, Italy around 1920. Her family were missionaries who went to India. This is where Olga met her husband Robert John Secker who was in the Army.
In 1940 Olga's daughter (*) was born aboard the ship SS Orcades but her birth is supposed to be registered in Bangalore.
I am hoping to find details of incoming passenger list of this ship as it was supposed to leave India for the UK, but cannot find anything, does anyone know where I could find the passenger list if there is one?
Also with India and Italy being involved, is there anyway I could ever trace any records, or is this just a dead end now for me?
Any advice is much appreciated.
Thank you
