The Common Room / Re: Double Marriage?
« on: Friday 19 April 24 22:44 BST (UK)  »
So they were married before in a non catholic church, that solves it then. I've just been reading that this is allowed when they have different faiths, well I never knew that. Thank you much  :)

The Common Room / Double Marriage?
« on: Friday 19 April 24 22:12 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help, I have a marriage record in Liverpool that has some latin writing in the margin I can't understand.

I have two records of marriage in Everton
1. Civil reg from Lancashire bmd 3rd quarter 1923 St Benedict C of E John Duffy to Maud Oscroft
2. Parish Register marriages at All Souls RC in November 1925 Joannis Duffy to Matilda Oscroft.

I know Matilda is a variant of the name Maud and Joannis is John
Are they the same people? Is it allowed to marry twice?  I hope for a clue in the latin scrawl in the margin.

I should add that HE was RC don't know about her

Apologies, I've been trying various forms of the surname and that one got stuck. I searched all the cemeteries at findagrave but if there's no headstone I'm stuffed, unless someone has church records

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Death in Birkenhead

Edited for errors

Hi all, anyone have burials in Birkenhead?

Looking for Thomas Foulks  1812 Lower Bebington Cheshire but died in Birkenhead 1877. His last address was 37 Warwick Street Birkenhead. He was a widow, no children lived with him.

I have searched the freebmd, the findagrave site and any parish records I can find in Ancestry, findmypast and familysearch (I found the index there but need more info) but there aren't many for deaths in Birkenhead, I've found nothing. Birkenhead doesn't come up on the Cheshire BMD either so not a even local hint where to search. His wife was buried at St Andrews,  Bebington.

May have to send for cert for him but I just ordered 3 births.

These links are all now broken but I would like to suggest this for further information on this church

However, there was another St Matthews in Toxteth Park on Hill Street, founded in 1839 closed in 1931.

Hi, did you get an answer for this query ? Did I answer you (memory is not good these days) because I have this Margaret Battersby married to my James Bebbington 1852 Gt Budworth St Mary, they had a son called William (and her father was William, they were from Banbridge in County Mayo I think) my link is through their son Thomas born 1872.
