The liberties of Coleraine on the east bank of the Bann were originally in Co Antrim and were added to Co Coleraine along with part of Co Donegal and Co Tyrone to form the new Co Londonderry in 1613.

My concern is that people looking for Coleraine families will be looking on the Co L'derry board rather than here on the Co Antrim board and may miss this.

John Thomson was elected a Burgess of Coleraine Corporation on 13 September 1681.

... and Coleraine is actually in Co Londonderry, not Co Antrim!

Like Elwyn I had thought Presbyterians did not use Banns but recently I transcribed a Presbyterian Church register going back to 1845 and found almost half the early marriages were "after Banns", not licence.

You need to log on to the GRONI site mentioned by Aghadowey and pay £2.50 to see the details for confirmation but the age is correct.

Do you know which graveyard in Desertmartin you are looking for? There are 2 Roman Catholic churches in the area St Patricks in the townland of Keenaght and St Marys in the village as well as 2 Church of Ireland ones (which would have been originally used by all denominations as the ancient parish churchyard) - St Columbs in the village and the ruined old church in Knocknagin townland.

I spotted a gravestone to Margaret Lockhart (died 16th November 1928 aged 78) in Templepatrick Parish Churchyard. The grave is also used by Andrew Logan (d 1972) and his wife Anna (d 1986) who are probably relatives.

Tamlaghtard parish records survive back to 1746 and are available on microfilm in PRONI and Portrush Library. They are also indexed on the Causeway Coast & Glens FHS website (members only access).
