Karenlee ... you are a gem ... an absolute angel. I kept quiet about little Giovanni (actually Giovanni Batista) only because I forgot to put him in my post. That's them - I'm positive.

However, you've put the cat really amongst the pigeons. I was expecting a much older lady. This means, you see, that the person who had an affair with my great grandmother (a married lady) was not Maria's son, but her husband, Michelangelo!!! Now that explains an awful lot (although it doesn't explain why my searches of the census records never brought them up. Hmmmm).

I had a sneaking suspicion that they'd gone to Scotland.

What a result! And so quick.

Northumberland / Tweedmouth - Johnson, McLeod, Rizza

Hi all - I'm new to this game, so forgive me if I ask stupid questions.

I'm doing reasonably well with my Tweedmouth ancestors, but I have three brick walls and a general question.

1.   Michael Johnson, a fisherman, born c. 1790 and d. 1858. Married to a Margaret Birkett. Had a son - George - born 1827. I know Michael died in Tweedmouth, but there the path disappears. I can find no record of his birth or his marriage.

2.   James McLeod born c. 1780 and married to a Margaret.  He had a son Thomas born c. 1810. That's all I know.

3.   The big surprise - this lady is my GG Grandmother. Mrs. Maria Antonia Rizza had two ice-cream shops in Tweedmouth (or possibly Berwick proper) in Kelly's Directory 1894. I can find no other trace of her (except I now know that one of her sons is my great grandfather - the things these people got up to !!! ;))

And the general inquiry - the name Fade creeps into the family naming tradition in Tweedmouth around 1830-1850. I assume that this must be a member of the Irish Fade family, but I have nothing to base that on.

So, if any of you have come across any of those people in your researches, or know anything at all about the Fades in Tweedmouth, I would be soooooooooooooooooo grateful to hear it.

Thanks in advance ... Mike.
