Montgomeryshire / Views wanted on Powys Archives Service
« on: Friday 06 February 15 20:27 GMT (UK)  »
People in Powys are being asked for their views on the county council’s Archives Service before it applies for grant funding to improve their facilities in a new home in Llandrindod Wells.

Powys County Council is asking people to express their views by visiting www.powys.gov.uk and completing an online survey.

Lincolnshire / Ruston & Hornsby Project - Lincolnshire’s industrial heritage
« on: Tuesday 02 December 14 07:56 GMT (UK)  »
Found this on Facebook this morning:

Lincolnshire Archives has been awarded £98,100 by the Heritage Lottery Fund for a project relating to Ruston and Hornsby of Lincoln.

A vast archive revealing 150 years of Lincolnshire’s unique industrial heritage is to be given new life thanks to the grant to Lincolnshire County Council from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Up to 150,000 photographic negatives, 150 reels of cine film and the recorded memories of former workers are all to be digitised, catalogued and made available online in a project of national significance.

My gt grandfather, Louis Palmer used Ruston steam engines with his ship repair business in Wisbech; he was also a selling agent for them.  Also, my grandfather, Ernest Palmer, served his apprenticeship with Rustons - must dig out my mother's old photos of them.

Thanks for all suggestions - think I was having a Senior Moment when I posted originally, but have now found a WordViewer that opens all my old documents.

Found it on the Microsoft Download site:

Technical Help / Reading Word95 documents in Windows 8.1
« on: Monday 11 August 14 08:30 BST (UK)  »
Revisiting old research files and I have many documents in Word95 format [I began my research back in 1999].

Now using Windows 8.1 + Kingsoft Writer which doesn't recognise Word95.

I do have Office 2003 on XP machine, but hesitant about putting it onto new PC just to read these documents.

Ideas?

Technical Help / Problem viewing old DejaVu saved pages
« on: Monday 11 August 14 08:09 BST (UK)  »
Going through some old files last night and discovered that I have many saved pages from 1837online which are in the DejaVu format.

Having upgraded to a new PC running 8.1 at Christmas, I need a viewer to be able to read these pages again.

On XP I had a viewer plugin that worked with Irtfanview, but that's not playing on 8.1.

Ideas?
