Could somebody please look to see if they can find my great great grandmother on the 1891 census. She was in Bethnal green at the time and her name was Elizabeth Mouldings and she lived at 7 Northampton Street.
Thank you

Family Bibles / Merles
« on: Thursday 25 November 04 22:00 GMT (UK)  »
We have my great grandmother's bible. it's inscribed Miss Nelly Merles 31st May 1891
Also says Mrs M Kelley (which we assume is Nelly's mum) died May 7th 1900
At the bottom it says Christ is with us and in us.

Hi Grey Squirrel
Just checked out the slide show. Thanks for that link. Understand things a little bit better now. got a few ideas to check out too. I sort of knew it was going to be a puzzle looking for my great great grandad, because he was jewish and he may of anglosized his name and also because he married outside the religion and may have changed his name as a consequence of that.
I will keep looking
Thanks again

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: HARVEY - BETHNAL GREEN
« on: Sunday 14 November 04 10:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Don't think this is the right Manning Harvey. The one on the 1901 census says he was born in bethnal green. Quite uncanny though. My Manning's wife is also called Eliza. His kids were called Charles, Albert, Grace, George and Adelaide.
I'll keep looking though. He is bound to show up somewhere eventually.
Thanks

Hi.
Managed to find my great grandad and his parents on the 1901 census. Great grandad was not as old as I thought. Only 16 when the 1901 census was taken. Hit another wall now, looking for my great great grandad, Manning Harvey. All i know about him is he was born about 1844 and he was a Jew that married outside the religion. I also think he may have changed his surname to Harvey as there seems to be no record of him on the 1851 census for Bethnal Green where he was born.
Will let you know if I eventually find anything
Thanks

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Jewish surnames
« on: Sunday 14 November 04 00:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there
I don't know if anyone will be able to help me, but I have hit a bit of a brick wall with my great great grandad. I think he may of changed his surname to Harvey as he was Jewish and married a non jewish girl.
Is anyone able to tell me if Harvey is a Jewish surname originally or if not if they know of a Jewish surname similar to Harvey he might have changed it from.
Thanks

Hi Sylviaann
Thanks for looking. Thought I might run into some trouble with this one. I think he may have changed his name to Harvey at some time as he was Jewish and married a non Jewish girl. I'll keep looking for clues
Thanks again
