Wiltshire / PIKE & WALL families - RAMSBURY
« on: Thursday 07 April 05 22:19 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone come across JOHN PIKE & MARY WALL in their researches?  They were married at Ramsbury in 1806 and their son, George, was born there in 1807.

Dear Geoff,

I am so sorry to have been so slow in responding to your very full response to my look up request.  I've been away from the computer for a while.  Thank you for all this marvellous material which I shall work through.  It looks very promising.  Best wishes for 2005, Emma

Kent / Re: CHEESEMAN / VERRALL in Rusthall

Thank you for this - and sorry for being so slow to reply (I've been away from this machine).  It would be lovely to know if there's a connection.  The trouble is, there are a lot of Cheesemans in Kent!  My Cheesemans originated (or at least spent most of the 18th and 19th centuries) in Berkshire and it was Charles Lot Cheeseman who moved to Rusthall.  Let me know if your subsequent researches indicate any possible link.  Best wishes, Emma

Shropshire / Re: CLEOBURY / OSWELL of Broseley / Astley Abbott
« on: Monday 03 January 05 18:00 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you for this.  I'm not sure there's a link, however, because I don't know what happened to the Oswells in the second half of the 19th century.  I have a Mary Oswell (b. 1823), the daughter of John Oswell, who married Thomas Cleobury in 1842 in Astley Abbotts church.  They lived for most of their lives in Broseley.  Her residence is given as Astley Abbotts at the time of the wedding and her father's occupation looks like 'waterman'.  Do let me know if your subsequent researches indicate a link with between your Richard and my Mary.  Best wishes, Emma

Hi!  I've just had a very good few days in Shropshire and, though I found no Oswells, I did find Thomas Cleobury!  His grave is on the left as you walk towards Broseley Parish Church - not far from the church porch, in fact.  Very thrilled to find him.  I popped into Astley Abbotts, too, but could find no one there.  Thanks for looking out for me.  Best wishes for a Happy Christmas, Emma

Anglesey Lookup Requests / Re: JOHN WILLIAMS HUGHES - LLANGEFNI - 1861 LOOKUP REQUEST

Thank you very much for this advice.  No, I don't at this stage know anything about his parents and therefore wonder whether what I have is precise enough to ask the library to undertake a search.  All I know is that he would have been a boy in Llangefni (possibly) aged 9, called John Williams Hughes.   But I'll have a go.  Thanks again.  Best wishes, Emma

Essex Lookup Requests / 1841 (or 51) Census FINCHINGFIELD lookup please

I have a Joseph LEVITT / LEVETT (b. c.1794) of Finchingfield who married a Sophia (b. c.1798); their son Joseph (b. 1837) married Emma RIDGWELL (b.1840) in 1859 and they had a daughter, Julia LEVETT, (b.1862) who married George DOE (b. 1862), the son of William DOE and Ann STOCK, also of Finchingfield, in 1883.  I was wondering whether the Levitts, Does, or Ridgewells turn up in the 1841 or 51 Census.  Many thanks.

Anglesey Lookup Requests / Re: JOHN WILLIAMS HUGHES - LLANGEFNI - 1861 LOOKUP REQUEST

Thanks.  Unfortunately he was living in Broughton-in-Salford, Lancs., by 1871 (aged 19) and was still there at the age of 29 (married with children by then).  All I know is that he lists Llangefni as his birthplace and that my father has a book (presumably of his), undated, inscribed 'Mona Drug Hall, Llangefni'.  The paternal side of his family are all from further south - Montgomery area - and this is the only indication we have that his mother's side might have had Anglesey origins.  Many thanks for your interest, Emma Disley

Anglesey Lookup Requests / JOHN WILLIAMS HUGHES - LLANGEFNI - 1861 LOOKUP REQUEST

My great great grandfather, John Williams Hughes, was born in Llangefni in 1851/52.  I wonder if anyone has access to an 1861 Anglesey Census and can locate him and his family for me.  With thanks, Emma
