Canada / 3rd degree of cosanguinity
« on: Tuesday 02 August 11 21:07 BST (UK)  »
Two brothers married two sisters in Stormont County, Ontario and each were issued a dispensation by the Roman Catholic Church because of 3rd degree of cosanguinity.

St. Andrews West church
2 November 1869 Archibald McDonald s/o Donald McDonald and Mary McLellan married
Sarah Driscoll d/o Simon Driscoll and Ann McDougald

St. Andrews West church
15 Feb 1863 John McDonald s/o Donald McDonald and Mary McLennan married
Margaret Driscoll d/o Simon Driscoll and Nancy McDougald

From census Simon was born 1803 Ireland and Ann/Nancy b. 1804-1808 Scotland.  Nancy died 7 Nov 1867 at age 64 which places her date of birth as 1803 and is buried St. Andrews West.  Another daughter of Simon and Nancy, Helen or Ellen, married Daniel McLaughlin.  Ellen Driscoll McLaughlin's death registration 26 Aug 1926 Roxboorough, Stormont at age 85 indicated her parents were Simon Driscoll b. Ireland and Nancy McDougall b. Paisley, Scotland.

The parents of the MacDonald/McDonald/McDonell brothers were Donald McDonald b. 1795 Scotland and Mary McLellan/McLennan/McLennon b. 1806 Scotland.  None of the records for their children give a more detailed place of birth for parents other than Scotland.  Oral history from other members of the family seem to indicate Inverness in Scotland.

My question is - How are these two families related?  Am I looking for a connection between Mary McLellan and Nancy McDougall?

United States of America / Alexander King

Albert Cummings(23) married Eliza Ann King(23) and on the 1861 census is living in Osnabruck Twp Stormont County with children Timothy(5) and Jane(3).   Marriage record not found.

On the 1851 Census  Osnabruck Twp Albert is living with his parents Michael and Dorothy.  My hypothesis is that the King family in Osnabruck Twp in this link is Eliza’s and that Alexander was her father.  One of Eliza Cummings sons was named Michael Alexander.
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census52/SplitView.jsp?id=21339

The second page of the census shows that in this family group of 3 males and 6 females Alexander was a widower and Jane a widow and a 14 year old male and a 40 year old female had died the year previous of measles.  All others were single.  The married Frederick King at the bottom of the page might also be related.

I can’t find any trace of Alexander King after this 1851 census entry.  I wonder if anyone else has any better luck.   I will also add this to the US board as the family has a known connection to Louisville, Stockholm, Massena area of Saint Lawrence County, New York State.

Albert Cummings and Eliza moved to Russell County in Ontario and from there crossed the border to Saint Lawrence County.  Eliza died in 1892 and Albert in 1922 in Stockholm.  Their children Timothy, John, Michael and Sarah Ann all lived in the Stockholm/Massena area and raised families while their other children remained in Canada.  I don’t need any information on Albert and Eliza other than that elusive marriage record.

Frederick King(35) b. Ireland is found on the 1860 Louisville, Saint Lawrence County census with wife Nancy b. Canada and 5 children born in Canada with the youngest born in NY.

Arthur King b. 1822 Ireland is found on the 1860, 1870 and 1880 US census for Louisville, Saint Lawrence County.  Daughter Elizabeth seemed to move back to Osnabruck Twp (d/o Arthur King and Elizabeth Hoople) when she married Joseph Thompson.

Rebecca King from the 1851 census might be the one who married John Christy(d. 1907) and raised a family in the same area of Saint Lawrence County NY.  On the 1880 census they are in Stockholm NY and in 1900 in Parishville NY.  Living with John and Rebecca in 1900 is Elizabeth E. King b. Mar 30 Ire, sister-in-law.  On the 1910 Louisville, NY census Rebecca Christie is widowed and living with her daughter and son-in-law in Louisville, NY.  Living with them is Elizabeth A. King, single, 84, b. Ireland, aunt.  A mention in one of the New York state newspapers talks about Rebecca’s sister, Miss King, living with her.  Perhaps this is the Annie from the 1851 Canadian census.  Rebecca d. Donegal / James McIntyre and Fanny (Frances) Stewart
« on: Monday 21 June 10 19:25 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to trace, for a friend, her Irish ancestry.  The following are the known facts.

Annie Jane McIntyre (b. Feb 14 1862) married in Montreal in 1885.  Her parents were listed as James McIntyre and Fanny Stewart of Co. Donegal Ireland.  On the 1891 Canadian census there is 18 year old Alice McIntyre (b. 1873 Ire.) living with the family.  I haven't found Alice further in Canadian records.  The descendant of Annie Jane believes Annie's birth took place in Londonderry and she has the father as John.  Annie came to Canada in 1883 - I haven't found that record so don't know if she came alone or with others.

The following are things I've found but not sure if they relate to Annie Jane or not

There is a passenger record for the Circassian arriving from Liverpool and Londonderry at Quebec May 12 1885.  It shows the arrival of 19 year old Frances McIntyre (b. 1866) and 11 year od Alice McIntyre (b. 1874) and their destination Montreal.

IGI references show the following children born to Frances Stewart and James McIntyre
Frances McEntire   c. 10 Feb 1866 Rathmullan Donegal
Samuel McIntyre   c. 17 Dec 1870 Donegal
Mary Helen McIntire  c. 17 Feb 1876 Rathmullan Donegal

I can find a Griffith Valuation for James McIntyre, tenant in Londonderry County Templemore East Parish which, from a source I can't recall, was brought up when I was searching for where Rathmullan was located.

Not sure if I should be looking in Londonderry or Donegal.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / 1814 Marriage Lookup Wellington Shropshire
« on: Monday 30 November 09 21:19 GMT (UK)  »
I found a reference in the LDS records of a marriage between William MANSELL and Sarah PHILLIPS Jan 24, 1814 Wellington Shropshire.  These are my GGGgrandparents.  If anyone can look up this record and find out the parents names for William and Sarah I would appreciate being able to take this line back at least another generation.

I can find William and Sarah on all the census available online and from William's death certificate we discovered a previously unknown daughter Ann.  She was married and therefore not on the 1841 census.  This information pushed back the possible marriage date for William and Sarah and the 1814 marriage seemed a good possibility as there is a christening for Ann April 9, 1815 in Wellington.  I finally realized that their last child, Benjamin, was born in 1838 and therefore I could get his birth certificate and confirm the mother's name.  It was indeed Sarah PHILLIPS.

Any information would be appreciated

Nottinghamshire / Mary Emma Barnsdall - birth and parents?
« on: Wednesday 18 November 09 22:24 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for help in defining who the parents of my Ggrandmother were and if we can find a birth registration for her.

Mary Emma Barnsdall, 24, spinster, of St(?) Alford Street d/o Abraham Barnsdall (died) no profession married John Heap, 21, bachelor, F.W.R., Shaftsbury Street, s/o Samuel Heap, fishmonger
on October 3, 1867 in the Parish church of Saint Marys Nottingham County by banns.  John's brother and sister, George and Mary Ann signed.

After her marriage I can find her in all census with her family.  1911 census in Derby she is 66, b. Nottingham and 43 years married.  In all census she gives Nottingham as her place of birth and the year always works out to 1845.  Her husband John Heap also has a birth year of 1845 and he proved difficult until I found his birth under Heaps.

In 1861 I think that Mary Emma Barnsdell in Nottinghamshire working as a servant in the house of Isaac Chambers is mine.  RG9 2467 47 24
Can't find her on the 1851 nor can I find an Abraham Barnsdall.
1841 census - can't find an Abraham and if Mary Emma was born around 1845 he should still be somewhere.

The marriage register of this couple is quite blurry.  The groom was a farmer but did like to prospect in the 20's and 30's.  No one knows how he met his wife (they lived on either ends of Ontario - mining was a theory).   Blowing up the image makes me think it is miner rather than farmer.  Do you agree?
