Europe / Incoming UK Passenger List Lookup
« on: Thursday 20 November 08 18:43 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone please lookup Arthur Frederick HEAP b. 1883 Derby travelling back to Britain between 1905 and 1909.

On the 1911 Canadian census he indicates that he emigrated in 1905 and his wife Elizabeth (Bessie) b. Manchester emigrated in 1909.  Who I thought he was married to turned out to be a false lead - when I requested the marriage certificate it appeared they were not connected.

I have a number of marriage possibilities - I thought if I knew if he travelled back between 1905 and 1909 it might narrow down my choices.

Thanks for any help

Tyrone / Dromore Parish Thomas McCusker Dorothea Gilmour
« on: Saturday 15 November 08 11:40 GMT (UK)  »
My ggrandfather, William Cosgrove, was born 1849-51 (according to Scottish census and his age on his death registration).  He was born in Ireland but I have no idea where.  He married in Scotland and on his marriage registration his parents were given as Thomas Cosgrove, labourer and Dorothy Gilmour.

I have not been able to connect a Thomas Cosgrove with Dorothy Gilmour but did find an IGI record for a marriage between Thomas McCusker and Dorothea Gilmour 24 Apr 1846 Presbyterian Church-0501 Dromore Parish Tyrone.  I can find a birth for William McOsker in 1846 in the indexes of Emerald Isle and that source also brings up the Gilmour/McCusker marriage.

I realize that Cosgrove has many variations and that McCusker is one.  Does this seem a plausible line of research?  If McCusker was William's birth name why the change when he went to Scotland?

There is also an IGI record of the birth of Isabella McCusker 22 Jan 1881 Dromore Parish daughter of Thomas McCusker and Isabella Gilmore McCusker.  The middle name of Gilmore makes this record interesting.

I would appreciate any input or suggestions.

Europe / Re: Incoming UK Passenger List Lookup

Thank you very much!  The record for 1937 (New York to Southampton) would definitely be the Heaps I would be looking for.  After homesteading in Saskatchewan for a number of years Arthur sold his land and moved to Nova Scotia where his younger brother was and became an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life.  They were godparents to my mother and were not at her wedding in 1948 so had returned to England before that.

Europe / Incoming UK Passenger List Lookup - COMPLETED
« on: Friday 14 November 08 17:28 GMT (UK)  »
I would appreciate it if someone could check the incoming UK passenger lists from Canada for
Arthur Frederick HEAP b. 1883 Derby and his wife Elizabeth (usually went by Bessie) b. 1878 Manchester although she used 1883 or 1886 birthdates as well.  I believe they went back to England from Nova Scotia in the 1940's.

Bessie HEAP also travelled back to England for a visit around 1934 as I can find a record of her return to Canada, age 48, birth 1886 Manchester, returning on board the Newfoundland departing Liverpool and arriving Halifax 6 October 1934.

Thanks for your help
Debbie
