Hi Monica,
thanks for that. I have most of the Bews/ Tait line through a distant relative tying up with my line, but your information confirms it.
The info on the Duncan/Hamilton side is great and fasinating. Will need to try a wee bit more on the Duncan line.
Also the information on the Owen/ Owens has been very useful, although I still think Robert (Samuel (1885s) Father ) was born in Lanarkshire, not Ireland as shown on later official documents, it was his parents Robert and Susana who were born Ireland.

any further information is always welcome

thanks a lot
Tommy

Hi Monica,
thanks, hope you get your son ok. We used to live at a farm and my kids were always missing the school bus, mind my oldest is now nearly 31 so long past worrying, only the grankids to concern me and the Mrs now. If you look on this site under WW1 Royal Scots Fusiliers, you can see a picture of my grandfather Samuel Owen

H Monica
What a mine of information you can get. I go on to SP and before I know it I am lost.

Once again I am indebted to you for all of this.
PS. the Owen side, I think my great grand father Robert told the Census people he was born in Ireland  :o, but I think from the info you gave, he was born in Airdrie, it was his father and mother who came from Ireland.

Hi Monica, calling on your help again. I left a post on the Fife site, you may have seen it but if not, here goes

Now my maternal side.

My gran Helen Duncan Hamilton was born Greenock 1888.

Her father James Hamilton was born 1853, don't know where. He died in Greenock 1894 aged 41) He married Helens mum Eliza Bews (from the Orkneys') in Leith Edinburgh in 1862. Eliza's address then was Kirkgate Leith, James was Greenock.

On James death cert (1894) it names his father as John Hamilton occupation Mason. No DoB or place and hiis mother Helen Duncan. It would appear Helen Duncan still alive in 1894? No DoB  or place either.  I did a marraige search, guessing years, and got posting of Banns in Markinch Fife 1845 for a John Hamilton, and a Helen Duncan. Confusingly there is also another Helen Duncan on the same cert??

Can you help?
Kind regards
Tommy

Monica, you have helped me out on my paternal side before. I am looking in to maternal side.

My gran was Helen Duncan Hamilton, born in Greenock 1888. Her father was James Hamilton born about 1853 (Died in Greenock aged 41 in 1894) Do not know where born. Married Helens mum (Eliza Bews, born in the Orkney Isles) in Edinburgh 1862. James lived in Greenock, at time of his marraige

Helen Duncan Hamilton grandparents on he father's side were John Hamilton occupation Mason.
Her mother Helen Duncan.
On James Hamiltons death Cert (1894) it has his father John as deceased but seems Helen Duncan still alive?
I did a search for marraiges and found a posting of Banns in 1845 Markinch Fife for John Hamilton and Helen Duncan but curiously there is also another Helen Duncan on the same Certificate??

can you help yet again?

kind regards
Tommy
