I found a Wyke Regis site for OPR - I researched pretty much every relevant listing and the only marriage listing was the one for Thomas Williams and Mary Harriss.  A fact I thought was interesting, in the marriage lists in the Wyke Regis Parish two of the records show females with surname 'Harris Russell'.  I also went through the list for 1841 census for any hints etc, there was lots of Williams, Russells and Harris but nothing else seems apparent.
I found a death listing in Hull for Mary - 12 Dec 1847 - so assume this is the correct one.
I havent been able to find any death details yet for Thomas.
William Henry would have been about seven when his mother died so there could possibly have been some confusion on his part regarding his mothers maiden name.  He was only 17 when he apparently came to Australia so not sure on what grounds a 17 year old would travel to the other side of the world.  I've gone through lots of  emigration/convict registers - no luck yet, but I'll continue to plod along ::)

Thank you for the responses.

Further checks of marriage details in Wyke Regis shows surname of two different females as 'Harris Russell'.  These entries are several years apart, 1822 and 1839, one father has surname of Russell (no Harris) - no fathers name for other entry.  I'm probably making a mountain out of a molehill so to speak but unsure of why both marriage and death certificates for William Henry show his mothers maiden name as 'Russell' when other details show it is probably 'Harris'.  According to 1851 census, William Henrys father had remarried so his mother probably died before he was 10 yrs old.  His mothers maiden name on his marriage certificate may have come from incorrect information he had as a child  ???

Dorset Lookup Requests / Thomas Williams and Mary Russell

Hello

I am in Australia and have traced my g g grandfather, William Henry Williams back to his birthplace, Hull, Yorkshire.  He was the youngest of eight children all who were born and some married in Wyke Regis Dorset.  William died in Minmi, Australia and his death certificate showed his was born in Hull, his parents were Thomas Williams and Mary Russell.  His father, Thomas, worked for HM Customs.

I have checked all records that I know of for marriage details of Thomas Williams and Mary Russell in Dorset.  I also checked in Hull.  The only possibility I found was – Thomas Williams and Mary Harris, witnesses Mary Williams and William Rufsell.  Date of Banns was 2 November 1814.  If this is the one I wonder why Mary's surname is shown as Harris.  I’m assuming the witnesses were their parents so looked for birth records for Mary, I found two possibilities, there was a Mary daughter of William and Ann bapt in Broadwey 7th Jan 1792 and another Mary daughter, of William and Charlotte bapt in Charmouth March 23rd 1795.  If there is any connection her I thought it may be the Charmouth one as Charmouth and Wyke Regis are both west of Weymouth and Broadwey is north.  I’m just not sure where to go from here.  I really do appreciate any hints/tips/advice
 ???
Regards
Lynne

Hi Rosie

I eventually received death certificate for William Henry Williams.  I was beginning to think it may have been quicker to walk to Sydney to obtain the certificate  ::)

He was born in Hull and came to new south wales Australia in 1857.  His parents were Thomas Williams whose occupation was 'H M Customs' and Mary Russell.

kind regards
Lynne

Armed Forces / military uniform
« on: Wednesday 30 March 16 23:08 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help with identification of the uniform my ancestor is wearing - I thought it was military but then thought maybe it might be connected to the police force.  My ancestor George Mather was born in Northumberland in 1854 and lived there until he came to Australia in 1906.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Northumberland / Seaton Terrace - Seaton Delaval

Hello

This is probably a bit of a strange question.  Is Seaton Terrace and address in Seaton Delaval or a place of its own.
My ancestors moved from Lowick to Seaton Delaval between 1871-1873.  Information shows a daughter being born at Seaton Terrace 1874 and another being born at Seaton Delaval 1877.  Further information shows my ancestor died in 1884 at Seaton Delaval Terrace.
