Armed Forces / Old Army pics
« on: Monday 01 December 08 22:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All!
I was recently very lucky to have been given an album containing lots of postcards and photo's from my family in the early 1900's. Amongst the photo's are 6 of men in uniform (Which i think is army). I was just wondering if anyone could give me any information at all about these men as i'm not too sure who they are and any information will hopefully help me identify them! I'm ashamed to say I know nothing at all about the military, although my father served for 26 years, so any information will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / My great Grandmother
« on: Tuesday 25 November 08 20:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hello there!
I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to see if they could play around with this photo and make it more clearer? Also does anyone have any idea roughly when it was taken? My mother thinks it's her grandmother who was born in 1892 but i think it is older than that and is actually her mother who was born in the 1860's. Many thanks in advance for your time!

Hertfordshire / Lilian SEABROOK
« on: Tuesday 25 November 08 15:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hello!
I'm really sorry if this is a stupid question, but i want to make sure i've got it right! My great grandmother was Lilian Elizabeth Seabrook born Apr 1881 in Bedmond, Hertfordshire. I have been looking at birth records and i have found a Lilian Elizabeth Seabrook but it's registered in 1881  Jul, Aug, Sep (vol 3a p 491). I was just wondering whether it was normal to register a childs birth quite some time after, in this case at least 2 months after! Many thanks in advance for you help!

Hertfordshire / SEABROOK Family - Abbots Langley
« on: Wednesday 12 November 08 00:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am currently researching the Seabrook family from Abbots Langley, Herts. My great grandmother was Lilian Seabrook born around 1881 in Bedmond (married name Robinson) and her father was George Seabrook born around 1849 in Abbots Langley. I have Lilian's Marriage certificate and it states George was a Juice keeper???? It's very hard to read! I believe George's Father was also called George and may have been born around 1816 again in Abbots Langley. I was wondering if anyone had any further information on this family? Thank you in advance.

Selkirkshire / Turner, Galashiels (completed!)
« on: Tuesday 11 November 08 23:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
First of all I'm a complete beginner so i apologise if i sound silly. Recently i found a ww1 medal that belonged to my great granddad and have looked up his medal card. I asked my grandmother about him and all she knew what that she thinks he was from Galashiels and his wife was called Lily. I was wondering how i would find out more? His name is James Turner and at a guess would have been born around 1890?  Unfortunately his son, my grandfather is dead so that is all i know.Thank you very much for your help in advance.

Family History Beginners Board / Orphanages
« on: Tuesday 11 November 08 23:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am a complete beginner when it comes to researching my family tree so I apologise if i sound silly! I have many birth, marriage and death certificates on my mothers side but on my fathers side i know nothing. After talking to my grandmother i discovered she was sent to an orphanage at a very early age. I was just wondering whether records for orphans exist and how i could get hold of them? I know the address of the orphanage but by doing a quick google search i have found nothing. I have asked my grandmother questions, but it was a distressing time for her and she is only prepared to give me basic details. Thank you in advance for you help.
