Thanks Jen, that's great info about the two daughters.

If anyone can track down the marriage, I would still be very grateful.

Northumberland Lookup Requests / George Hunter Anderson
« on: Monday 17 November 08 14:11 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find more about my ancestor, George Hunter Anderson, who married Eleanor Godfrey Boullen at St John's in Newcastle in October 1844.  (I have the certificate but the writing is awful).

Please could anyone check the parish register for the date and the names of the witnesses?

George's occupation is given as Gentleman's Servant, but the following April 1845, when their first daughter, Mary Jane,  is born, his occupation on the birth cert is Hackney Coach Proprieter, address 9 Buckingham Street, Westgate.  Does he appear in a trade directory?

They then go on to have two more daughters; Sarah Eleanor (1848) and Georgina Harriet (1851), who were christened at St Johns.  Are there any more details in the register entries?

Eleanor and the girls are in Manchester by 1859, but George seems to disappear out of their lives.  He is not in any censuses and does not witness the girls' marriages nor can I identify his death cert.  Can any one help, please?

Jim, Thank you again.  This is my 3rd post, so should be able to send a personal message after this.  Am very keen to see the will, so will try hard!
I think there are three individuals called Eleanor Boullen in 1841 census:
first Ellener Boullen at King St aged 35 is Jean's wife Eleanor nee Hastings (I know her age is wrong, but so is Jean's)
second Ellener Boullen at King St aged 15 is either the Eleanor who becomes James's wife or it's the Eleanor Mary who dies in Carlisle in 1892 aged 77
third Ellen Boulen at Stanwix is Jean's daughter Eleanor Godfrey Boullen who may have had Thomas in 1838.

To complicate matters, there is also an Edward Boullen (born 1838 in Gretna), an orphan living with Mary Irving and her son John at Westlinton, Cumberland in 1851.  One of the witnesses to Eleanor G's wedding is John Irving - is this  Edward the same individual as Thomas born in 1838?

Jim, Thank you for that wonderful info.   How on earth did you find the will?   I have Jean and family at King St, Carlisle, but I don't think the "Ellener" aged 15 is his daughter, Eleanor who was born in 1814, and would be 27 in 1841.  Also there is an "Ellen Boulen", born London aged 20 working as a female servant at St Ann's Hill, Stanwix, just north of Carlisle, who I think is my Eleanor Boullen.  Also my Eleanor married George Anderson in Oct 1844 in Newcastle and his occupation is  given as "Gentleman's servant" on the marriage certificate.  She was already pregnant with their first daughter, Mary Jane, who was born the following 3 April 1845.I also think Thomas may have been her son. Eleaner Godfrey Anderson (nee Boullen) died in Ashton on Mersey, near Manchester in 1887.  However, going back to "Ellener"; Jean's son James is married an Eleaner, born either in Carlisle or Scotland in 1827 in later censuses.  She died in Salford in 1891 aged 64.

I, too am descended from Jean Godefroy Boullen - he's my 6xgt grandfather.    I'm interested in Jean G's ancestry, was he born in Guernsey or, as stated on 1851 census,  France?  I'm also interested in his wife, Eleanor Hastings, about whom I know nothing.  Finally, Eleanor (their daughter) marrried a George Anderson in Newcastle in 1844.  They became my 5xgt grandparents, but George has proved to be my most elusive ancestor - any info would be appreciated.
