Moray (Elginshire) / Re: 1891 Census look up please
« on: Sunday 30 October 11 20:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Betty,

I'm not sure if this is the correct James and Margaret but it is the only result that I got for Moray in 1891. Any clues as to where they were born?

Maverston, Urquhart, Moray

James Williamson, 50, Road Labourer born Elgin
Margaret Williamson, 45, born Inverness
Isabella, 14
Annie, 10
Christina, 8
Robert, 5     all born Urquhart

Couldn't find Margaret in the 1901 Census, maybe someone else will have better luck than me  :)

Hi Lucie,

Welcome to Rootschat  :)
I'm sorry about the delay in replying...things have been a bit hectic recently and I'm not getting as much time as I'd like for family research.
The Glass in my family refers to the place rather than the surname - I'm a descendant of the Archibald family from Glass. Can you tell me a bit more about your Dey and Grant families?
I can't send you a personal message with my details until you make at least 3 postings so if you can just expand a bit about each family then that should cover it  :)

Hi Ann,

Thank you for the link. I'd seen the site a while back but forgotten about it.

Anyway, I had the name of a farm/steading in Marnoch which I hadn't been able to locate so tried putting the name into the place search.  I've discovered that it changed name after my GGGrandfather died and also had renovations and extensions added. By putting the co ordinates given into Google maps, I now know where it is, have seen it using street view, and will be able to have a look next time I'm in the area. I never thought that I'd find it so many thanks  ;D

Banffshire / Re: The MURISON family name.

Hello Louisa,

I haven't looked at this thread for some time and it was purely by chance that I did yesterday and saw your post. It's been a while since I looked at my Morrisons so wanted to get up to speed again before I replied!

Thanks to your information, I found John Morrisons marriage to Eveline and also where they were in 1881. I also looked again at some of his siblings and found his brother Robert's marriage to Isabella Wilson and their children. They settled in Macduff.
Going back to Alexander Morrison and his wife Elizabeth (John's parents)...I had her surname as Joss and at first I thought that I had been mistaken and that it should be Ross after seeing your post. I've looked again at her marriage and death certificate and it is definitely Joss. This is also confirmed with Robert's daughter who was named Elizabeth Joss. I don't know if this helps or hinders but agree that the name Eveline is unusual and feel that there probably is a connection if we can only find it!

Thanks again for the information and I'll let you know if I find out anything else.

Aberdeenshire / Re: Maia Anne Siwek

Hi frodocat,

Have you been able to get the address in the BT directory yet? There is one Siwek in the Aberdeen phone book and one in Sauchen which is just outside Aberdeen.
You only need one more post here and then I can send a PM with the details.
