Australia / Michael Ryan, "Napier" ship 1865
« on: Tuesday 01 July 14 08:57 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for Michael Ryan, who sailed on the same ship as my great grandmother, Margaret Ryan, to Melbourne, Victoria in 1865. He may have been her brother. She went to Allansdale (now Allanford) near Warrnambool, Victoria and if he was her brother, he may have also gone there.
She married James Traynor in Warrnambool in 1868, then they moved to Purnim, later to Marraweeney, then to Warragul.
The only birthplace I have for Margaret Ryan is Tipperary, Ireland.
I would appreciate any assistance.

Not really sure, but one could have been Johanna who went to the USA as he named a daughter here in Australia Johanna and his mother was of the same name. Cheers.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I think it may have been Clonea-Power, but certainly Rathgormack. We will be visiting Ireland in Sept. so would love to know of any descendants.

Johngirl, thanks for that! Unfortunately I put the date of Mary Ann (Byrne) Reardon's death instead of their marriage which should be 1853.

My gt. gt. grandfather, Michael Reardon, m. Mary Caughley possibly in Gowran, co. Kilkenny. They had a son, John Reardon, b.1822 in Gowran. Co. Kilkenny. He married Mary Ann Byrne in Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow in 1853 and they migrated to Victoria, Australia. It is possible they lived in Clashwilliam or Mooncoin, Co. Kilkenny. Michael Reardon & Mary Caughley also had Ann, Denis and Johanna. In 1832, Michael remarried Ann Desmond, after Mary Caughley died.
Any help with tracing ancestors would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Bird family - Surrey
« on: Monday 01 December 08 06:06 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have information about the Bird family in Surrey? William Bird was born 25/2/1829 in Clapham. According to the 1841 census, he had 2 brothers, Thomas and John. His father, also called William, was a Seaman. His mother's maiden name was Ann Brookes.
William Bird arrived in Australia approx. 1850 so is not on the 1851 census. He worked as a digger on the Landsborough, Victoria, goldfields. He then became a storekeeper. He died in Stawell, Vic. in 1875.
Thank you.
