Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Re: Darcel Family

Pierre Marie Darcel married Jeanne Marie Blais in St Helier between Jul 1882 and Feb 1886.
The entry is on page 63 which would fit with a marriage in 1884.

Guernsey records are at the Priaulx Library in St Peter Port.

According to the admission document Albert was born 12 Oct 1876 and entered the Industrial School on 17 Aug 1885. His relatives are listed as a mother and a sister with his father seemingly already deceased. He left the school on 27 Mar 1893 now able to read and write and having been taught the trade of shoe making. Apparently he was apprenticed to a Mr Lucas (?) in Innisfail, Alberta, Canada which is quite unusual. His mother died on 20 Nov 1889.

Many army pensioners made their homes in Jersey in the first half of the 19th century. The main reason was usually financial, the cost of living here was considerably less than on the U.K.mainland.
There was a constant military presence on the island from the late 1700s because of the threat from the French - Francis may even have been stationed here at some point.

Bridget O'Neill, wife of Frs Welsh died at No 4, The Parade in St Helier on 4 Oct 1858, aged 60

There are BMD indexes for Jersey on-line but you need to contact the Priaulx Library for Guernsey civil records.

Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Re: Jersey island - Philip Heaney
« on: Wednesday 02 March 22 10:15 GMT (UK)  »
The death of a Philip Heaney is recorded in the index for St Helier cpvering the period from Oct 1979 to April 1981. It is Volume 80 and is on page 75 which would make it towards the end of that time frame.
Jersey Archive has a copy of the will of a Philip Heaney of Mont Plaisir Guest House, Midvale Rd, St Helier and formerly of Overdale Hospital. Probate was granted in Jan 1981.

No guarantee that this is your grandfather but you can get a copy of the will from the Archive. You could try messaging the Registry Office,sir@gov.je, for details from the certificate - make sure you give them the details of the index or they will charge you a search fee.

Assuming that James Hamon is the person you are looking for I can offer you 2 possibilities. There are probably others as Hamon is quite a common name.
1. 18 April 1848 in the parish of St John, son of Philippe Hamon and Rachel Bisson
2. 26 Aug 1849 (James Peter) also in St John, son of Jean Hamon and Jane de Gruchy

James Peter may have married Ann Le Brocq in St Helier in 1877.

Where does Huntingdonshire fit in?

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Re: ‘Of the West’ in burial entries

As you say St Martin was 'home' parish to many Noel families and my take on it would be that the clergyman added 'of the West' to indicate which part of the parish of St Martin Clement came from and thus differentiate him from other Noel families.
