FH Documents and Artefacts / National Probate Calendar
« on: Sunday 27 October 19 17:09 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone provide assistance please?

I have found my great great grandfather on the National Probate Calendar and would like to apply for a copy of the will. He was Jean Jacques Tirard of 72 Rue Blanche, Paris who died 20 April 1902..........presumably in Paris as he doesn't appear on the UK death registers. He must have had UK property for probate to be in the UK.

Where can I get a copy and how much does it cost?

How do I go about applying for a Posthumous French Bravery Award for my father? He was a French National - born & bred in France of a French mother and British father. Because of his activities against the occupying Germans in 1939, he joined the French Army as the only option to leave France, and was sent to North Africa. In 1943 the Allies defeated the Axis and French Nationals were instructed to join the Free French by De Gaulle. My father refused and cutting a long story short was flown into England, interviewed by the I.S.L.D and sent into training and then into occupied France. In late 1943 and 1944 he was in Rhone Alpes working with the Maquis / Resistance. I have documents from French Nationals with whom he worked, confirming this and also completed American SASX questionnaires from NARA which mention him as a "British Military Intelligence Officer identifying landing areas".
I understand L'Honneur de la guerre was last awarded in 1947 and is not awarded posthumously.
Would appreciate some guidance.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / 1939 Register
« on: Tuesday 11 December 18 21:07 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for Jack Lennards on the 1939 register.........brings up an entry for Jack Levine - crossed out and "Lennard" inserted. It gives a date of birth........and the following notation: "m.d. 230 AYA 28.5.51" any ideas?

According to the entry, it's possible Jack Levine was married to (Joan Avril) Hoffman........ There isn't a birth entry for Jack Levine for December quarter 1905 - per the birth date given and I can't find a marriage between Levine / Hoffman.........which the entry also suggests.

London and Middlesex / Death Registration and burial

Greater London Burial Index includes:
Mary Ann Lloyd, 57, Little Sutton St, 8 Jan 1854 age 56, St Thomas Charterhouse, Islington

There are three death registions in 1854 for Mary Lloyd - no Mary Ann's - Hackney, Southwark and Marylebone. None fall in the first quarter.

Any ideas?

Europe / PROFESSIONAL RESEARCHERS - FRENCH?
« on: Monday 06 February 17 17:56 GMT (UK)  »
Yet another door slammed in my face in my fairly hopeless attempts to find out more about my father's death in Cameroon in 1964. As he was dual French/English and apparently socialising with French friends when the purported accident occurred, I made an approach to the French Consul in Yaounde.

Why, why why is it necessary to get a professional researcher? .........Anyone happen to have contact with someone who would take this up?

Can anyone recommend a FH programme which runs on a Mac? Preferably something free of charge - and something I can easily download. At present using Legacy Family Tree on Windows 8 but looking to change over to Apple.

Thanks in advance.
