Caernarvonshire / Re: Penygroes Baptisms

I've had confirmation that Soar is still open. The chapel records 1913-1982 are held at Caernarfon archives, but that probably wouldn't help you.

Here is a brief description of Llanllyfni, within which you would find Penygroes

If Independent/Congregationalist, then the chapel named Soar might be a good bet, or the three others in neighbouring villages. The baptism records of these chapels can be quite difficult to find - a lot depends on how diligent their secretaries, and in particular, their last secretaries were (if they've closed) . I think Soar is still open in some form. Some records can be accessed at the National Library of Wales. I know they have an internal electronic list of available records, but I'm not sure if its viewable outside the library.

Merionethshire Lookup Requests / Re: Hafodfraith , Festiniog 1871/1881 census

Its a while since I posted this !. I can't remember exactly why, as I have very few Ffestiniog interests. I think it may have been a branch of a 'Foulkes' family. I'll post again once I get clued up again.

I'd be grateful if anyone could locate the above gentleman in the 1851 census, please (Or any other one, for that matter).

See my speculation re this in a previous posting last Saturday on this gentleman. I hadn't considered a late baptism. I've noticed now, as well, that the Richard Samuel Chambers born in India died there as a child.

I've now found four further children of Richard and Susannah Chambers being born in India.(FS)
Twins John and Sarah (b + d 1821) , Richard Samuel Chambers ( 1824) and John Henry Chambers (b 1822). I wonder if John Henry is the same as Joseph Henry ? (No record of the birth of a Joseph) .
I also wonder whether the Indian-born Richard Samuel Chambers is the father of the two whom I've accused of ' touching-up' their roots ? . Its just about possible, I think.

The father of (Marc) Louis P Sergy is almost certainly Marc Louis Sergy (B Switzerland 1812, died London 1874 (?)) He married Catherine Matilda Chambers in 1859, but its true that I cannot find them in 1861 ( I can find them in 1871) . The ages of the two Sergys do not match, so I wonder whether Louis is a half-brother of Marc from a previous marriage ?

That's very useful information - this very minute I'd come to the conclusion that Anne had gone abroad. Thank you very much for that. You make an interesting point about ages. The very youngest child, Mary Anne, leaves no trace, as far as I can see. However, in 1866, in Paddington, a lady named Marion Emily Chambers, 21 years of age, marries a William Taylor ( an army captain ?) . Her father is given as Richard Charles Samuel Chambers (profession given as esq).
In subsequent censuses, Marion's birthplace is given as Madras. William Taylor sadly dies around 1868, and interestingly, around 1869, a Charles Chambers names his son William Taylor Chambers.
This Charles Chambers has a similar birthdate to the one I'm interested in, but again gives a birthplace in India.
I wonder if these two are trying to invent a past for themselves that was slightly more 'posh' ? I cannot find any trace of a Richard Charles Samuel Chambers anywhere.
