Sussex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Wivelsfield Asylum
« on: Saturday 25 August 12 23:38 BST (UK)  »
That's weird with the Wivelsfield title... The Sussex County Asylum was built in Haywards Heath and is still there! The building [now residential] is about a 15 minute walk from HH town centre and Wivelsfield is about 2.5 to 3 miles away!

Wonder where the Wivelsfield connection comes in?!  ???

PS. There are a couple of copies of the book on ebay, depending on how much you want to spend!

My Gt Grandfather was Thomas William Deadman who was born 1878 in Funtley, Hampshire. Not sure when he moved to Sussex but he married my Gt Grandmother, Elizabeth Ada Parris, in Sussex in 1900!

They had 4 children and lived in Chailey for the rest of their lives - she died in 1946 and he died in 1953; both are buried in Chailey.

I have Deadmans in my family, but mine seem to have done things the other way round!

My Great Grandfather came to Sussex from Hampshire where the family had lived for over 200 years!

Sussex / Re: Headstone Photo Request - Delves of Sussex
« on: Wednesday 06 July 11 17:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi

On my way to Battle earlier I stopped off at Waldron & Dallington and had a wander round the churchyards.

Dallington is small and most of the headstones are very old and illegible, of those that were legible I found no Delves.

Waldron is bigger but some of it has been left to overgrow and is now a "conservation area"! I did however find a recent headstone there bearing the name Richard Harvey Delves, who was born in 1934 and died in 2000 - don't know if that helps any?

Hi Tim

Been out today and stopped off at Heathfield on my way home and had a quick look for any Humphrey names and found these :

Lottie HUMPHREY  -  died 24th November 1935; aged 49 years {grave next to Enos. & Beatrice Dann!}

Violet Lily Mary HUMPHREY  -  1920-1987
David HUMPHREY  -  1916-1989

Annie Louisa HUMPHREY  -  1887-1965
Frank Alfred HUMPHREY  -  1891-1974
and their Son :
Arthur Rex HUMPHREY  -  1919-1981

Also whilst I was following up some of my own family in Cuckfield, I found these two names. Don't know if they're connected to you at all but thought I'd let you know just in case!

Frank Dann - 1876 - 1940
Grace Dann - 1875 - 1966

Just noticed this post of yours too - there's still a "Mill Cottage" in Sandy Cross, wonder if it's the same place that your Dann family were living at?

I can either post the photos on here or email them to you, which would you prefer?
